WEBalley - Html - Software All you need to know to set up a site, to make pages, and to publish it on the web, all for free. browsers The next thing you need is a (web) browser. http://www.weballey.net/html/software.html
Extractions: epilogue To create web pages you need some software. Everything you need is available as freeware or shareware, to be found on the internet. You can find all the software mentioned below at my downloads page. TUCOWS, the wonderful site of Scott Swedorsky, has a very nice collection of this internet software and lots more. Editor The first thing you need is an editor, a program to write and edit HTML. Preferably a text editor, the best way to go is to entirely write the code yourself. You should understand the consequences of each and every bit of HTML. You may also consider using a text oriented HTML editor. In that case don't use the HTML functions. Use them only after you understand the basics of HTML, learnt in this tutorial. A regular word processor cannot be used. No matter how good yours is to write text with. These editors make files which cannot be read with a browser, and often it's quite complicated to change this. Also don't be seduced into using a WYSIWYG editor. These often give only meagre results, are monstrous and slow. The HTML code they produce is veritable garbage.

If anything needed to be updated and placed on a Web site, employees had to depend on their Web editors to add or update content, make small changes, or remove a page entirely. But now there seems to be a solution to this bottleneck, and since more and more content is needed online, it only makes sense that content contributors should be enabled to edit or update their own content. The debate may be never-ending but many companies and universities are flocking to purchase Web content management systems (WCM).

Extractions: Web publishers at Montana State University Bozeman are responsible for the content of the pages they publish and are expected to abide by the highest standards of quality and responsibility. Additionally, all publishers should comply with established publishing policies Concentrate on original work Readers are looking for information on your college, department, or organization. The most valuable contribution you can make to your readers is to publish original work. Collections of pointers to the work of others, while a service that can be valuable, is not a substitute for publishing your own documents and materials. Take advantage of the work of others Cooperation and coordination are two prevailing principles among Web publishers on this campus and throughout the world. Rather than duplicating the work of others, take advantage of it. Incorporate links to the work of others into your own pages, when appropriate. Reducing redundancy lets you concentrate on original offerings. Be sure to get the author or artist's permission if you quote or incorporate someone else's work into our own. Review your pages Publishing in the Web is just that - publishing. And just like paper publishing, your Web pages should follow the normal procedures of proper review and approval before you publish them.
