Inner Architecture Building bridges through Inner architecture . September 2002 An otherdimension to architecture. Naturally, the intention and the topic of the forum http://www.auroville.org/thecity/architecture/inner_architecture.htm
Extractions: 'Inner Architecture' - September 2002 A personal reporting by Peter Anderschitz on the International Forum of Young Architects (IFYA) with focus on Auroville's International Zone. This annual international design forum took place in Auroville under the label of 'Inner Architecture' from Sept. 15th until 29th 2002. Why they all came together - with a lot of effort from both the participants and the organisers - and for a rather unknown adventure? Those young professional architects from far away: from Vietnam, Germany, USA; as well as those young architecture students from India and Europe who by joining unexpectedly added even more spice to the learning exercise..? They came to learn from each other and from this richly inspiring environment called Auroville, which is a City with a Vision, yes, but also a place and a people just beginning to learn how to become citizens - of a new world.. They came to learn, and it turned out that everybody, participants and organisers, became student during these two weeks. Naturally, the intention and the topic of the forum 'Inner Architecture', was the signal and call to look for another dimension to architecture, and urban and environmental design, with another intention, another way of action. Focusing the work on Auroville's International Zone, which only recently got another push by the

The Greek coins have a number of different images. Two of the coins depict Europa being abducted by Zeus in the shape of a bull. Another, the 1-cent coin, depicts an owl, in a design taken from an ancient Athenian 4-drachma coin. Other designs on the Greek coins include important historical political figures and different ships reflecting Greece's maritime legacy.

Pacific Region Forum: The Japanese Language: Bridge Or Barrier It is invariably a foreign country s closed markets that are cited as the In other words, while much foreign criticism of closed Japanese markets is http://www.cic.sfu.ca/forum/AndrewHorvatAug071997.html
Extractions: On my way here (to Vancouver) to give this talk, I took an American carrier over the Pacific. As the plane was being readied to take off from Tokyo's Narita Airport, a short video program on airline safety began to appear on screens throughout the aircraft. As soon as the English-language portion of the video was over, a tall, blond cabin crew member nudged the side of the screen causing it to disappear into a slot near the ceiling. The result was that the video projector continued to beam safety messages in Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Hindi, Portuguese, German, and a few other languages onto the plane's blue and grey upholstery. These days, referring to our own era as the jet age has come to be something of a cliche, and yet there is a large kernel of truth in this well-worn expression. Our trade patterns have come to reflect the ease and affordability of international transport. An executive of the giant 3M corporation told me recently, "We anticipate our overseas operations to outpace the growth of our domestic output in the coming decade." And yet, business decisions affecting the global operations of major corporations continue to be made by senior executives who have the same attitudes toward foreign language skills as the air crew member who put the screen away after she stopped hearing the familiar sounds of her native language. This is especially true in the case of US trade relations with Japan. Not surprisingly, often the decisions monolingual managers make about foreign markets are wide off the mark. In 25 years as a Tokyo-based foreign correspondent, I have come to notice that no corporation ever publicly blames a monolingual manager for his or her failure to take a product into a foreign market. It is invariably a foreign country's "closed markets" that are cited as the main cause.
