Brancker made the announcement on Tuesday at the official launch of the CWC 2007 cricket schedule, logo and mascot (Mello) at Queens Hall. He suggested that security of the citizens here and abroad is at high risk from terrorism and organizers are preparing to make the championship as safe as possible. "This World Cup (committee) has held a number of meetings and workshops with senior representatives from the police forces and the regional security agencies, to make sure the security plan we have developed is well understood, and that everyone is equipped to execute it," Brancker said. His comments come in the wake of the London bombings and last weeks blast in Port of Spain.

Extractions: Chabacano versus related creoles: Socio-linguistic Affinities and differences by John Holm University of Coimbra Casa Nova Semide, Miranda do Corvo 3220-405, Portugal jholm@mail.telepac.pt Abstract: This article compares Zamboangueño (the variety of Chabacano spoken in Zamboanga) with several other creole languages to evaluate the relative importance of superstrate versus substrate influence on their morphosyntax. The presence or absence of parallel morphosyntactic structures are noted in two creole languages that share Zamboangueño's superstrate but not its substrate (Papiamentu and Palenquero in the Caribbean). Parallels are also noted in Tok Pisin, the restructured English of Papua New Guinea, which shares Zamboangueño's Austronesian substrate but not its superstrate. The results point to the importance of both superstrate and substrate as a source of creole grammatical features, but suggests that the former may be more influential. 1. Introduction In fact, it was the first book-length study of Chabacano Keith Whinnoms Spanish Contact Vernaculars in the Philippine Islands (1956) that began the modern debate on this topic that led to the monogenetic theory, the hypothesis that all of the worlds creoles based on European languages are derived from 15th and 16th-century Pidgin Portuguese (and ultimately the Mediterraneans Lingua Franca, which goes back a thousand years to the Crusades) via relexification, or word-for-word translation into other languages. This theory is ultimately unprovable and was largely abandoned in the 1970s, but there is still a convincing case to be made for the relexification of the language that became modern Chabacano from Portuguese to Spanish vocabulary. A good case for relexification can also be made for the only two other creoles based on Spanish, which are found in the Caribbean area: Papiamentu in the Netherlands Antilles, and Palenquero in northern Colombia.
Amanda Bearsdley AGU Abstract BOLIVAR Tectonic history Based on Brittle Deformation Features of the relation to plate motions to improve understanding of regional tectonic history. http://www.geophysics.rice.edu/AGU/beardsley.html
Extractions: Rice University, Houston, TX Structural analysis of faults, joints, veins, and bedding planes has identified several deformation events on the ABCs. The oldest (D1) structures are megascopic folds that trend WNW-ESE. Some of these folds display a weak axial plane cleavage. Thrust faults trend NW and are thought to be related to the D1 event. These structures are crosscut by NE-SW trending joints, veins, and normal faults (D2). Dextral strike-slip faults (D3) trend WNW-ESE to NE-SW. Normal faults trending WNW may be the youngest structures (D4). Newly acquired MCS lines are interpreted; megascopic structures in these lines are compared to the mesoscopic structural data on the islands. We attribute all of these features to two deformation mechanisms: 1) oblique plate convergence accompanied by displacement partitioning and 2) escape tectonics of the Maracaibo block. The D1 - D4 structures result from displacement partitioning and can be separated into three components. The arc-normal component of the plate convergence vector is accommodated with margin parallel folds and thrusts. Joints and veins correspond to the arc-parallel stretching component. The parallel component is characterized by dextral strike-slip faults. The tectonic escape of the Maracaibo block is associated with the clockwise rotation of the ABCs from EW to WNW. These are preliminary results and future study includes zircon and apatite fission-track dating and fluid inclusion analysis to determine the relationship between uplift of the ABCs and plate boundary dynamics.

Extractions: This colonial habitat or "habitation Picard" is one of the oldest colonial sites on the coast of French Guiana (end of the 17th century). It is the first time that a site of this type has been excavated, in a rescue excavation that provided an extensive information. Close spots of craft and pottery, and close extraction site of row material allowed the analysis of the settlement as a whole, with its economical and technical functions. Large pits provided a general view of the man-made features (particularly postholes), that define the major building as "fourches en terre". The associated artefacts, crockery and metal furnitures, show an opportunist settlement, located in a hard environment, during the first contact period. The excavation of the Amerindian settlement in the Katoury lot, located on a coast-line shore, allowed the research of several aspects of the ancient populations on the Guyanas coast with a double synchronic and diachronic approach. This rescue intervention showed paleo-soils trapped by several successive muddy phases of the littoral. It also allowed the excavation of complex man-made structures, full of a large quantity of ceramic and lithic artefacts, whose typo-chronological attribution is badly known in the Guianas. It provided new chronological marks. The evaluation of the dump system was possible, and the dynamics of the structures in a littoral habitatwas understood. It showed the spread of the littoral Amerindian settlements. Finally, it provided the synchronic and diachronic development interpretations. The first dates obtained situate the first occupation within the second half of the 10th century.
