Extractions: By Lynn Salt The 12 th annual First Americans in the Arts awards ceremony was held in the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on March 20, 2004. The Biltmore Bowl Ballroom, where the show was taped, was the same location where eight Oscar Award ceremonies were held during Hollywoods golden era. Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert and Frank Capra all won Oscars for "It Happened One Night" in this room. It was exciting to think that any one of us was sitting where Clark Gable sat with his Oscar. The stage was dressed and lit with an elegant simplicity that created an intimate atmosphere that had everyone feeling closely connected with the happenings on-stage. We were close enough to share the excitement, enthusiasm and sometimes tears of joy as recipients accepted their awards. Our host, Michael Horse, guided us through the evening with just enough information and plenty of humor, especially when he ad-libbed. Sheri Foster was given the awesome task of announcing at the fast pace with which director Kevin Brechner and associate director Selina Jayne moved the show along. Producer Bob Hicks respectfully requested that all award recipients keep their speeches less than two minutes and almost everyone complied. The show ran smoothly, was well paced, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves. The response to the new location for the show was so positive that FAITA has already booked next years awards presentation in the Biltmore Bowl Ballroom on March 12, 2005.

This term encompasses a large number of distinct tribes states , and ethnic groups , many of them still enduring as political communities. A comprehensive tribal list can be found under " Classification of Native Americans The terms "Amerindian" and "Indian", both of which are derivatives of "American Indian" (as is " Amerind ", though this term is more popular in linguistic circles), are not necessarily completely synonymous with "Native American". Although all Amerindians are Native Americans, not all Native Americans are Amerindians. "Amerindian" relates to a mega-group of people spanning the Americas that are related in culture and genetics, and are quite distinct from the later arriving Eskimos Inuit Yupik , and Aleut peoples native to Alaska and arctic Canada ). The latter share their cultural and genetic commonality with other arctic peoples not native to the American continent, such as those from arctic
