The Board of Directors are seeking benefactor(s) to endow each division with a $25 million donation. An endowment will also be sought for the theatre in the amount of $25 million. The benefactor(s) will then be offered the opportunity to name the Library, Museum or theatre, subject to the final approval of the Board of Directors. Our plans are to construct facilities on a campus approximately 300 acres in size. This will allow us have room for expansion in the decades to come as we increase the endowment and add sports facilities to the educational program. Sports fields are desirable in order to teach through participation and play. If we have a baseball field we can teach the history of baseball by playing a game using 1860 rules for 3 innings, then playing by modern rules for 3 innings. In the basement of the Museum we could have a bowling alley from the 1800's where the pins have to be set by hand, and right next to it have a modern bowling alley that is fully automated. Our visitors can go bowling either way. Consider the possibilities for each and every sport this means a lot of space is needed.

Australia will face Japan on Tuesday for the right to play the gold medal match on Wednesday after qualifying in fourth position for their maiden appearance in the Games play-offs. Australia lost to Canada in a largely meaningless preliminary round match on Sunday night after both teams went into the game with 4-2 winning records and certain semi-final positions. What needed to be determined was the finishing order behind joint gold medal favourites Japan and Cuba, who had secured the top two places. Canada's victory meant they finished third to book a showdown with world champions Cuba in the second semi-final. Australia will be hoping to repeat their surprise 9-4 victory over Japan in the preliminary rounds last Wednesday, and Deeble said the landslide loss to Canada would not be on his players' minds come finals time. Deeble had rested star catcher David Nilsson and other key players from the Canada game to freshen them up for the play-offs.

The basics of bat and ball date back centuries, but the first record of a form of baseball was documented in 1839 when General Abner Doubleday organised a game for his troops. Within six years Alexander Cartwright had founded the first club - the New York Knickerbockers - and rival teams started sprouting up in the 1870s when the first professional league was formed. Baseball made its Olympic bow in 1912 but had to wait 80 years before it was granted medal status. In all the sport was played at demonstration level on six separate occasions - seven including the Finnish baseball exhibition in Helsinki in 1952. In 1912, an American team consisting of players from other Olympic disciplines took the honours.
