Recently, it has become marketable for professional athletes to have a bad attitude and go against the grain. Controversy creates publicity, which generates revenue for all parties involved. Often this profitability grants the troublemaking superstars immunity to the consequences of their actions. Anyone who follows the NFL or professional sports in general should be well aware of the recent situation with Keyshawn Johnson and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To summarize, Keyshawn (known by his teammates as Me-shawn) was de-activated by the team as a result of a myriad of actions that have become commonplace throughout the career of this highly talented wide receiver. Among those actions were missing team meetings, missing workouts, and declaring directly to coach John Gruden during the season his preference to play elsewhere the following year, basically putting his own needs and wants ahead of those of the team. Well, he got his wish, just a little sooner than expected. In an unprecedented move and one that I hope encourages other teams to do the same, Gruden and GM Rich McKay basically fired Johnson from his job as their starting wide receiver and resident troublemaker.
