Extractions: Add your comments Posted Aug 11, 2005, 9:28 PM ET by Ann Adams I bought two backpacks on wheels now that the younger two are walking to school ($60.), a bunch of pencils, sharpeners, pencil cases, and paper (maybe $10.) A new zipped binder for the middle schooler ($6.) tissues ($6) and probably some small stuff I've forgotten. I usually start them off with one new outfit each but it's 100 degrees here, their summer clothes are in good shape, and I believe they're growing an inch a day. I'll start over around early October for the cold and wet season. I shop the thrift and discount stores and we have a "pass it down" network among friends as well. The girls learned a long time ago they will never be on the cutting edge of fashion. Fortunately their grandmother on their mother's side loves to send clothes and has a great sense of style, although a little fancy and not as practical as I would choose. I'm a jeans and polo shirt person. However, as their economically challenged great-grandmother and guardian on their father's side, I'm grateful to her. It helps.

Extractions: Arrival Information: No supervision is provided on the playground until 7:45 am each day and children should not arrive before this time. For those students who walk to school, please instruct them to use crosswalks, sidewalks and/or the safest route to school. Dismissal Information: All children are asked to go home immediately when school is dismissed at the end of the school day. There is no supervision on the playgrounds after school. The only students who should be on the grounds are those who pay for the After School Recreation Program, are attending Scouts, Brownies, and other special programs, or are being kept after school by a teacher. When a child is to be kept after school, parents will be notified. If you, the parent, need to wait to pick up a sibling from kindergarten, please stay with your other child if he/she wishes to play on the playground, as they are not allowed on the playground without an adult present. Parents will be contacted when students are unattended on the playground after school. Students in 1st through 5th grades who are not picked up by 3:00 pm will go to the school office and parents will be contacted. After morning kindergarten classes are dismissed at 11:40 am, unfortunately our student population is too large to accommodate children on the playground even with parent supervision. Our 1st through 5th grade students are scheduled for classroom activities, recesses and lunch recesses on the playgrounds until 3:15 pm. The playground supervisors and teachers, who are responsible for all our children's safety, would have difficulty with the congestion of additional children on the playground. When your child's kindergarten class ends for the day, we need you to leave the campus. Teachers and playground supervisors need to focus on students in session and insure safe playground activities and set safe limits of play. We need you to help increase safety by limiting the numbers of both children and adults on campus. Also, as you know, parking is at a premium, and parents who arrive for afternoon activities and meetings need every space that we can make available.

Extractions: var sCookie = eval(''); About Us Contact Us Return Home All About Candy ... General : Bite-Sized Candies Hit the Shelves in Time for Back-to-School Vienna, VA Less is more. Share and share alike. These phrases reflect a growing trend in the candy industry. Candy manufacturers are satisfying consumers' desires for flexibility by emphasizing moderation and portion control through smaller candies and re-sealable packaging. Packages of bite-sized candies are on the shelves now, in anticipation of Halloween, but there is no need for parents to wait until October to enjoy their family's favorite treats. Smaller-sized candies enable consumers to eat a little at a time, and re-sealable packaging reminds consumers that each bag contains multiple servings, which helps parents and children alike observe the important dietary principle of moderation. There are so many ways that kids can enjoy candy, in moderation, as part of a balanced diet, said Larry Graham, president, National Confectioners Association. Whether it's a quick snack for your teen after school or a surprise in your grade school child's lunch box, when you balance sweets with regular meals, children can enjoy candy without over-indulging. Candy manufacturers are continuing to introduce more bite-sized candies that enable consumers to eat a little at a time. Many of these candies are individually wrapped, making them perfect to distribute piece by piece. A dditionally, in recent years, candy manufacturers have introduced re-sealable bags of unwrapped, bite- sized candies that make it easier to serve some immediately and save some for later.

We have them displayed around a large world map right inside the front door of the school. The children collected used bottles, cans, etc. for recycling to raise money for the postage. On the 100th day we set up centers around the classroom with various 100 activities. For instance we may compare the lengths of 100 paper clips fastened together and 100 link and learn chains. We see what 100 pennies look like. One group will build a construction with 100 wooden blocks. Another group will build a construction with 100 pieces of Lego. Noise Control Noise Control From Janie Allan, Janiea@aol.com , an elementary teacher at SonShine Christian Academy: Quiet Points "My students have a hard time staying quiet so I came up with a point system. Each period is worth 20 points. If a student disobeys the quiet rule, the points are subtracted in increments. First they are left with 10 points and then 5 points. After the final infraction, they have points left. At the end of the period, I record a running total of points on a section of the board. They like to see how many they can collect. They can spend them on extra computer time, stickers and treats but I set the prices high enough to ensure that I don't go bankrupt." From Rajini Devi
