Ian McFarlane Australias Industry Minister recently made public comment on the need to lower Australias labour costs to the same level as New Zealand. The NZ Public Service Association has expressed deep concern on the Ministers comments, and the direction that the Australian Government is taking the industrial relations system. Brendan O'Connor, Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations and Workforce Participation and former ASU national official, has accused Kevin Andrews, the Minister for Workplace Relations, of displaying contempt for the Committee and for the parliamentary process after he set up a second closed enquiry into independent contractors with almost identical terms of reference to the first.
