Extractions: At the ICSB Board meeting in January this year, as SEAANZ President I clearly stated SEAANZ position in relation to the various interest groups of our members. I indicated that SEAANZ was endeavouring to identify ways of supporting SME researchers, policy makers, facilitators (practitioners) and educators. I am happy to report that the ICSB too has now also identified these groupings of members and in future will be seeking to make sure the needs of all members are provided for. We should now see that the emphasis of future ICSB Bulletins, conferences, and the website will be across all these four sectors. And of course we will hope that the interests of all sectors will be greatly enhanced if both SEAANZ and the ICSB can show how the work of members of each of these sectors integrates. Elections 2004 I have had two enjoyable years as President of SEAANZ having taken over from Bob Arnull in Adelaide in 2002 and I will not be seeking re-election in September. Competing interests, becoming ICSB President in June 2005 and a commitment to run a successful Melbourne ICSB Conference in 2006 have been the major factors. It is also important however to ensure that we have refreshing views and ideas being presented and helping shape directions for the Association.

Extractions: SAS continues annual revenue growth streak Worldwide revenue increases 4.4 percent in 2002 "In a difficult economic climate, SAS continued to grow," said SAS president and CEO Jim Goodnight. "At a time when many of our competitors lost revenue and others relied on services to drive revenue growth, our software license revenue grew by 4 percent, making us the fifth largest independent enterprise software company worldwide by software license revenue. In addition to increasing revenue from our existing customer base, we signed 1,100 new customers. These strong results are the outcome of our efforts over the last two years to package the application of our market-leading predictive analytics to specific business needs, ensure data and applications integration through support for open standards and direct access to an unrivalled number of data sources, maintain strong relationships with our existing customer base and increase awareness of SAS through more aggressive marketing activities. "While most software vendors were slashing budgets and reducing their investment in R&D, we increased staff by 6 percent worldwide and invested 25 percent of revenues into research and development nearly twice the average investment of large software companies to support new development initiatives and prepare for the rebound in the economy. I believe we'll start to see the results of that investment in 2003."

Notes Under various arrangements since the 1920s, there has been a free flow of people between Australia and New Zealand. The 1973 Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement has allowed Australian and New Zealand citizens to enter each others' country to visit, live and work, without the need to apply for authority to enter the other country. The movement of New Zealanders to and from Australia relates primarily to the economic conditions prevailing in both countries. In particular, the number of New Zealanders in Australia increases in times of economic buoyancy in Australia relative to New Zealand and decreases when economic conditions are slow. At 30 June 2004, an estimated 450 000 New Zealand citizens were present in Australia. On 1 September 1994, amendments made by The Migration Reform Act 1958, resulted in a number of changes to migration legislation.
Extractions: DATE OF PUBLICATION: November 2002 Description Adapted from the second edition of the best-selling text Principles of Microeconomics by N. Gregory Mankiw, this new Pacific Rim second edition will provide students from Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia with a concise, relevant and practical introduction to microeconomics and how it is applied in the real world. The text provides Australian students with a solid introduction to the institutions and economic landscape of Australia and its region. It retains a strong international focus, however, to enable students to recognise that Australia is part of a global economy, and helps them to place the Australian experience in a global context. Written for those who are studying economics for the first time, the text enables students to relate the theory they are learning to their own experiences. Well-thought-out examples and case studies throughout the text help show students the relevance of the theory they are learning.
