This article discusses common legal needs related to each one. Because every business situation is unique and every legal situation dependent on the particular facts of the case or transaction, you should seek the assistance of a qualified attorney to review your specific business or legal situation. The Internet is an efficient mechanism for delivering electronic media. For example, one may download an update to a particular software package that may have been purchased at a local retailer. This raises the issue of whether the electronic fulfillment satisfies the vendor's contractual obligations to the customer. For instance, what if the service becomes unavailable? What are the procedures for ensuring that compatibility requirements are met? Are there users in multiple geographic areas who require instructions tailored to their local language? Issues of return and refund must be addressed. What are the delivery and return mechanisms (e.g., download, FTP, e-mail)? Are they secure? Draft your contracts to address faulty delivery or unavailability. In addition, make provisions for support, be it online, by telephone, or in person.

Texas-Mexico Border Texas Internet bureau can help communities fight child predators by Attorney General Greg Abbott The Internet has given child predators the anonymity to act on their perversions. That is why it is imperative we are vigilant in tracking down and locking up these predators. Today, law enforcement agencies across Texas and the nation are working together to bring justice to those who would prey on our children. The Texas Attorney General's Office formed the Internet Bureau to track online predators and train law enforcement officers. Our team of investigators are online every day looking for evidence of cybercrimes against children. In a recent Internet Bureau investigation, an officer with the McAllen Police Department and investigators from the district attorneys' offices in Potter and Fort Bend counties helped apprehend a suspect in an undercover operation in Central Texas. The officers are on special assignment with the Internet Bureau. James Steven Thornton, Jr., 26, a parolee living in Lampasas, was arrested when he arrived at a restaurant in Travis County to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old girl he had met in a chat room. The "child" happened to be one of our Internet Bureau investigators. He then allegedly got the child to agree to a sexual rendezvous with him. He has been charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. Thornton allegedly engaged the online "girl" in a four-hour, sexually explicit conversation. Throughout the conversation she claimed to be 13. He told her where to meet him, described the pickup he would be driving and the style of clothes he would be wearing.

However, the affordances of the digital environment and the higher levels of consensus possible in planned online affinity communities will permit the design of considerably more streamlined and transparent quasi-legal processes. Likewise, architectural processes as well as legal ones come into play when exploring the less restrictive design space of virtual worlds. By adopting the approach taken by the Pattern Language movement to the legal and technical context of online communities, it becomes possible to promote their organic growth and enhance their long term viability. This is the strategy being pursued by The Continuity Project in its efforts to unify Hypertext Digital Library Metacomputing End User Programming , and Online Community research to transform the online public access catalog into a collaborative medium for the social construction of knowledge. Any modern legal system is a study in complexity. But underlying this seemingly chaotic structure are a few basic patterns that have been combined and overlaid to reinforce or mitigate each other's effects as countless players vie for personally beneficial results. Indeed, game play is perhaps the most appropriate analogy and economic model to capture the evolution of this process.

The Bohnett Foundation dedicates its resources based on a founding vision of investing in social change. Gay and lesbian civil rights have long been a priority for Bohnett, who traces the inspiration for Geocities to his own experience as a gay man. ãMy passion for the idea of online communities, my idea for giving away free home pages, came from my own experience . . . It was through my personal experience of coming out that I recognized how important it was to give everyone on the Internet that same chance to speak up about who they are - to give a voice to their hopes, their dreams and their passions.ä The ACLU/SCâs inaugural Bohnett Staff Attorney will be Martha Matthews. She joins the ACLU after years of public interest litigation on behalf of youth and low-income families, most recently as a staff attorney at the National Youth Law Center, where she engaged in impact litigation and legislative advocacy to improve the foster care system and to improve delivery of services to adolescents.
