Extractions: May 3, 2004 DAVIDSON, N.C. Davidson College announced its award winners for all sports on Monday evening at a banquet held in Belk Arena. Headlining the honorees were Barrett Johnson, selected as the Tommy Peters Award winner, given to the outstanding male athlete of the year, and Latisha Chapman, selected as the Rebecca Stimson Award winner, given to the outstanding female athlete of the year. Not your prototypical wide receiver at just 5-10 and 170 pounds, Johnson worked diligently at his craft to become one of the top receivers in not only the Pioneer Football League, but also all of Division I-AA. Johnson earned numerous accolades as a senior, catching 62 passes for 980 yards, totals that placed him among the nation's leaders. Johnson finished his career with 2,157 receiving yards, breaking the Davidson record held since 1969. Chapman used her four seasons with the Wildcat volleyball team to become one of the most dominant players in the Southern Conference. This past fall, the middle blocker recorded a Davidson single-season record with 590 kills, was named to four all-tournament teams, and was the only player in the Southern Conference to rank in the top five in both kills per game (4.5) and blocks per game (1.18). Chapman's .270 career attack percentage, 1,203 kills and 374 blocks are all among the highest in school history.
