Extractions: Arts collectives are not new in Malaysia. Established names like Five Arts Center (F.A.C), Artis Pro Activ (APA) etc are among a handful of local collectives that have made their mark when it comes to pushing numerous boundaries that hampers the growth of Malaysian independent and alternative arts. The last few years have seen a healthy mushrooming of new arts collectives around the Klang Valley. Independently run by young, idealistic and committed groups of individuals, arts collectives like

Lois Pickering earned a Masters of Education degree from Boston University's School of Education in 1954 and taught at the Spencer Borden and Westall Elementary Schools in Fall River, Massachusetts. Through the U.S. Department of Defense Dependant Schools, Lois taught in Morocco, Italy, France, and Belgium before teaching in England from August 1970 until her retirement in 1982. In honor of Lois' career our library will be known as PERL. Finishing touches are almost all in place. Extractions: This revision of 13 November, 1994, is an extensive update of the version of March, 1994. A lesser revision of form and content is anticipated before the end of 1994. This is a list of Internet special interest lists (also called "forums") broadly related to the study of history. It is over 100 Kb in length, which most people will find too big to download or read through. I suggest two methods to explore it. One is to do a search for a keyword of interest to you. Better is to use the links in the following table of contents to reach the section you want. I. History Lists A. Universal and General History B. Lists on the History and Culture of Specific Regions 1. Asia in general, Central Asia, Pacific and Oceania East Asia a. Korea and Japan b. China c. Southeast Asia South Asia West Asia Africa 6. Extractions: Indonesia's reformasi (reform movement) has toppled President Soeharto and forced the first democratic elections in over 40 years. But will it lead to real and lasting change? Such successful reformation would have to entail a new political system that is both accountable and effective. But remaking government will be neither simple nor expedient. In the meantime, resistance and political fragmentation may yield a hasty return to authoritarianism. The one-day Colloquium, "Back to the Future? Prospects for Reform in Post-Soeharto Indonesia," was designed to place scholars from Indonesia, North America, and Australia in a small forum to facilitate in-depth, round-table discussion on an inter-disciplinary basis. In debating the implications of recent events in Indonesia for the future of that country, a principal challenge is keeping up with the rapid pace of developments there. Participants often prefaced their comments with conditional references to ongoing developments in Jakarta. Samasar Siahaan with his self-portrait at the Colloquium After Bill Neilson, Director of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives, opened the event, Colloquium organizer and participant, Dr. Timothy Lindsay, Associate Director of the Asian Law Centre at the University of Melbourne, provided some context for non-Indonesianist audience members, and defined the scope of the Colloquium.
