Extractions: Documenting for the first time the existence of the Jewish community in Armenia, the film presents a journey never taken before. While breaking on its way many myths about the relations between Jews and Armenians and discovering many new realities from the past and the present, the film looks at the traces of a 13th century Jewish community of Armenia; listens to the story of perseverance of a tiny, yet devoted group of Subbotniks living on the shores of Lake Sevan; and follows the personal journeys of the younger generations of Jews of Armenia. It is a story about the harmonious and sincere coexistence of two cultures, who at times, had to find refuge in each other's lands.

Jews In Medieval Armenia A bibliography of sources on the discovery of a Jewish cemetery in armenia. http://www.khazaria.com/armenia/armenian-jews.html
Extractions: In the 13th-15th centuries, at least one Jewish community flourished in Armenia. Evidence indicates that the Armenian Jews came from Persia. Many Jews lived in the city of Eghegis , and their gravestones have been found, translated, and analyzed. They were a religiously-observant community. Based on existing evidence, researchers believe that the Jews and Christians in Armenia had good relations. Given names used among medieval Armenian Jewish men included Michael, Eli, David, Baba, Sharaf-ed-Din, and Sabay. Armenian Jewish women had names like Esther and Rachel. The names are Hebrew and Persian in origin. The first trace of the medieval Armenian Jewish community was discovered in 1910. Other remnants of the Jews of Eghegis were discovered by Bishop Abraham Mkrtchyan in 1996, and a great amount of research was conducted during the years 2000 and 2001 at Eghegis by a multi-national archaeological team. NAASR History Before the establishment of NAASR, the field of Armenian Studies in the United and popular articles on Armenian history, culture, and related subjects. http://www.commercemarketplace.com/home/naasr/history.html
Extractions: Forty-five years ago, a small group of Armenian-Americans and Harvard University professors began meeting to discuss ways in which Armenian studies as well as Armenian culture in all of its forms could be advanced in the United States. By 1959 NAASR had realized its first major goal, the establishment of an endowed Chair for Armenian Studies at Harvard University, the first such chair in the United States. A second chair, at the University of California at Los Angeles, was established in 1965 through NAASR's fund-raising efforts primarily in the California Armenian community. Since that time, NAASR has supported Armenian studies programs at a number of other American universities, including Columbia University, the University of Massachusetts, Wayne State University, Rutgers University, Tufts University, California State University at Fresno, the University of Connecticut, Bentley College, and more recently the University of California at Berkeley and Sage Colleges in New York. Largely as a result of the impetus provided by NAASR, ten additional chairs of Armenian Studies in the United States have been endowed, with a number of others in the planning stage.
