Extractions: Before the LCMR (Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources), Pittman Robertson Act monies were allocated for the improvement of firearms ranges, with archery not even being considered for funding. But archery had its day in 2002. by Linda K. Burch To Other Columns By Linda... To say that archery had its day at the Minnesota State capitol would be a lie. Behind the half hour shooting range presentation before the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR), were hundreds of hours of preparation by folks from both the public and private sectors. That day at the capital was not just one day or even several weeks, but was a decade in the making. Linda Burch testifying before the LCMR at the Minnesota State Capital in St. Paul The LCMR was created in 1963, to make funding recommendations for special natural resource projects. These projects help maintain and enhance Minnesotas natural resources. Since 1963, LCMR has appropriated over $493 million for approximately 1175 projects. Funds go toward things like fish, wildlife and native plant habitat projects, environmental education, water issues, and recreation and natural systems. The shooting range proposal fell under the area of recreation. With Pittman Robertson (PR) monies largely being allocated to wildlife biology and habitats, the firearms and archery industries have seen a proportionately small return on the investment they pay into the PR program. Federal funding for Minnesota Firearm Safety Education ended in 1997, which sent the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources scurrying for substitute funding.

History Of Archery Main it was clear that the bow as weapon belonged to the past, due to the introduction of the gunfire. Since then, archery developed as a recreational sport. http://www.archery.metu.edu.tr/sitetr/histmain.html
Extractions: History of Archery Archery is one of the oldest arts still practiced. This history will not only take you through a journey on the evolution of archery, but also through the history of mankind. In China, archery dates back to the Shang dynasty (1766-1027 BC). A war chariot of that time carried a three-man team : driver, lancer and archer. During the ensuing Zhou (Chou) dynasty (1027-256 BC), nobles at court attended sport archery tournaments that were accompanied by music and interspersed with elegant salutations. Chinese civil archery introduced to Japan from the 6th century had an overriding influence on later etiquette and techniques. One of Japan's martial arts was originally known as kyujutsu (the art of the bow), now known as kyudo (way of the bow).Kyudo today continues to be taught in the traditionally prescribed manner. After certain ritual movements, the archer advances with deliberate steps to the shooting line and shoots at a target 36 cm in diameter set in a bank of sand that is roofed over, from a distance of 28 meters. The bow is 2.21 meter-long and made of laminated strips of bamboo and wood. The bow was both a means of subsistence and existence before and during the days of English and later American colonization.

In the spring, it is the place to search for morels. In the fall, it is ablaze with a rainbow of color. The park land actually belongs to AmerGen which operates a nuclear power plant in the area. The State of Illinois has operated the park since 1978 through a long-term lease with the utility company. The partnership demonstrates that the state government and private businesses can work together to provide outstanding recreation. For good eating, it is hard to beat a walleye and Clinton Lake has plenty of them. The bridges are excellent places to catch them from the bank and boaters can hit the Old Creek channels or submerged flats. For some great spring action, the spillway area yields large numbers of both walleye and stripers, as well as crappie and catfish. Clinton Lake also provides good action for largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, and bluegill. Special size and creel limits are in effect for most species.
