Extractions: Shelter Information Available for Adoption Guardianship Application Truth about Pit Bulls ... Contact Us Why MUST we Stop Breed Specific Legislation? Because no matter who you are: a parent attempting to protect your children, an animal guardian hoping for a chance to live in peace with your companion animal, or a taxpayer tired of your money being wasted on ineffective laws, you need to become involved with this issue because Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) will NOT achieve your intended results. There is a very REAL problem of dangerous animals running loose, attacking and sometimes killing human beings. This indeed must be addressed and stopped. But, banning a specific breed of dog or animal simply will not make our society safer. Using Colorado as an example: Their were 600 reported dog bites, and 44 were pit bulls, or pit bull mixes in the past two years. That is 7.6% What about the other 92.4%? You still have 92.4% of dogs out there in the county that have bitten someone. We must g o after the irresponsible dog owners. This will engage us in solving 100% of the problem.

Extractions: American Pit Bull Registry ( APBR ) Everything Pit Bull Pit Bull Registration made easy, Support unparalleled PO Box 1036 Antioch, TN 37011 Reporting Neglect and Abuse The Pit Bull is probably the most abused and neglected breed of dog in existence. Because of the unfair treatment so many Pit Bulls face it is inevitable that a certain percentage of these will act out against humans. This is not because of the breed but because of irresponsible ownership. In order to combat the negative image the American Pit Bull Terrier ( APBT ) has it is our responsibility as responsible Pit Bull dog owners to reduce the level of mistreatment the breed faces by those who are irresponsible. It is important to note there is a difference between neglect and abuse and the handling of each can vary depending on the situation involved. Neglect is often a product of being unable to take care of one's Pit Bulls. This can be due to causes of financial difficulties, physical difficulties, or simple ignorance. Other times it can be simply that the owner does not care for the suffering the animal faces and/or in general has a callous disregard for life.

Past Events and deserve breed specific protection equal to that of dogs and cats. Sadly, the protection afforded to it by the animal welfare Act does not take http://www.ferretcongress.org/USDA.html
Extractions: Petition to the USDA to provide protection to ferrets Currently, many legislative challenges are facing ferrets and the ferret community nationwide. Many of these pending legislative actions have not only repercussions on the welfare of ferrets, but also their health. Now, an action (see petition below) is being brought before the United States Department of Agriculture and the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service that would request a revision in the requirements for breeding farms already under USDA control. The proposed changes would not apply to small breeders who sell privately; rather they would apply only to breeders who breed ferrets for wholesale to the pet industry, their distributors, and the transport they use. This action requests that the departments review the current protection provided for ferrets, and revise them to provide more breed specific needs. Currently, no ferret specific guidelines are available for the protection of the health and welfare of farmed ferrets - and several groups would like to see this matter addressed. Within the next several months, proposed regulations will be available for public review and commentary. At this time, however, it is critical to convince the Department of Agriculture that ferrets need - and deserve - breed specific protection equal to that of dogs and cats.

Always purchase a pet from a reputable breeder or a registered domestic animal business, such as a pet shop or animal welfare shelter. These organisations can provide quality information and advice about pets. Vets look after the health and physical well being of cats and dogs which includes treating sick animals, vaccinations, desexing operations, provision of worming and flea medication and conducting regular health check-ups. Vets also provide advice on your pet's diet and exercise requirements. Many local vets also run socialisation activities for puppies between the formative 8 - 16 week period. Organisations such as the Lost Dogs' Home, Cat Protection Society and the RSPCA take in dogs or cats that are lost or have been abandoned and attempt to re-unite them with their owners or re-house them. Animals for sale from animal welfare organisations have passed rigorous health and behavioural tests and will most likely be wormed, desexed and microchipped. Most welfare organisations also have information on caring for your pet.
