It must be the same sensation a psychic gets when gazing into a palm and glimpsing the full arc of a life. ''Grey's Anatomy," ABC's new hospital drama, is the kind of TV product that's so instantly recognizable you feel like you've already dreamed it from premiere to finale. It might as well be over before it really starts. ADVERTISEMENT The show, which debuts tomorrow at 10 p.m. on Channel 5, follows a pod of surgical interns trying to survive at the fictional Grace Hospital in Seattle. You guessed it: They don't sleep enough, they deal with arrogant doctors, they lose nice patients, they save nasty patients, and they sit outside looking at the stars and having painfully earnest talks about life. And of course, when they aren't flirting, they are competing. They're the same scrubs histrionics we've seen on every medical series since ''St. Elsewhere" arrived in 1982, including ''ER," ''Chicago Hope," ''Gideon's Crossing," and ''Presidio Med." Their likeability, though, is stretched thin by the scripts, which force all the characters into cutesy situations. By next week, the interns are roommates, and they are contending with tired male-female bathroom issues out of ''Ally McBeal." Also, in the premiere, Meredith sleeps with an attending doctor, Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd, before realizing he's her new boss. That means the show is going to throw far too much faux Hepburn-Tracey banter at us.

An insect body has a hard exoskeleton protecting a soft interior, it is divided into three main parts ( the head thorax and abdomen ) each of which is in turn composed of several smaller segments. The Integument The amazing success of the insects must in part lie with the incredible mixture of flexibility and strength of the integument (that is the part of an insect that makes up the hard exoskeleton) that allows insects their freedom of movement without loss of defence and protection. It is made up of three parts, the most visible of which is the outer 'cuticle' and its attendant bristles and hairs, below this are the 'epidermis' and the 'basement membrane' The Cuticle The cuticle is a relatively thin layer of non-cellular material which lines the external surface of the body as well as lining the tracheae the anterior and posterior sections of the alimentary canal and parts of the reproductive system. It is flexible, elastic and white when first formed and stays this way in many larval forms, however in most adults it undergoes chemical processes which result in hardening and darkening and which are referred to as 'sclerotization'.

Clams Clams, such as the northern quahog , are bivalves, meaning that they have shells consisting of two halves, or valves. The valves are joined at the top, and the adductor muscles on each side hold the shell closed. If the adductor muscles are relaxed, the shell is pulled open by ligaments located on each side of the umbo. The clam's foot is used to dig down into the sand, and a pair of long siphons that extrude from the clams's mantle out the side of the shell reach up to the water above (only the exit points for the siphons are shown). Clams, such as the northern quahog, are filter feeders. Water and food particles are drawn in through one siphon to the gills where tiny, hair-like cilia move the water, and the food is caught in mucus on the gills. From there, the food-mucus mixture is transported along a groove to the palps which push it into the clam's mouth. The second siphon carries away the water. The gills also draw oxygen from the water flow. The mantle, a thin membrane surrounding the body of the clam, secretes the shell. The oldest part of the clam shell is the umbo, and it is from the hinge area that the clam extends as it grows.

Extractions: An inguinal hernia has 2 components: the peritoneal sac and the defect in the abdominal wall. If one treats only the peritoneal sac, e.g. by high ligation, a definite risk of recurrence is present because the peritoneum will have the tendency to bulge through the opening in the abdominal wall. This is common knowledge since the Middle Ages, and very early on, attempts were made to close the "hole in the wall". Simple closure of the defect, however, caused an unacceptably high recurrence rate. More complex repair techniques were necessary and over 100 years ago the Italian surgeon Bassini designed a muscular plasty, in which the muscles in the inguinal canal were stitched together in order to build a screen that could withstand the intra-abdominal pressure. This technique gave good results as compared to others, and carried a recurrence rate of 10 to 20 %. Morbidity was not negligible, however, because of the high infection rate and the postoperative pain. Pain was not caused by the surgical incision, but by the traction created by the repair.

Extractions: Anatomy Modules TMJ Anatomy The temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is the articulation between the condyle of the mandible and the squamous portion of the temporal bone. The condyle is elliptically shaped with its long axis oriented mediolaterally. The articular surface of the temporal bone is composed of the concave articular fossa and the convex articular eminence The MENISCUS is a fibrous, saddle shaped structure that separates the condyle and the temporal bone. The meniscus varies in thickness: the thinner, central intermediate zone separates thicker portions called the anterior band and the posterior band . Posteriorly, the meniscus is contiguous with the posterior attachment tissues called the bilaminar zone . The bilaminar zone is a vascular, innervated tissue that plays an important role in allowing the condyle to move foreward.
