Extractions: Studies in American History The Charles Warren Center for Studies in American History was established in 1964 with a bequest from Annielouise Bliss Warren in honor of her husband, Charles Warren , an eminent lawyer and legal scholar. The gift was designed to further the study of American history at Harvard and to open Harvards facilities to scholars from the United States and around the world. Since its founding, the Warren Center has brought hundreds of postdoctoral research fellows to the University, and awarded significant funds to generations of undergraduate and graduate students studying American history at Harvard. In addition to these major programs, the Center hosts public lectures by distinguished historians, organizes conferences on significant subjects in American history, and sponsors projects such as the recently published Yards and Gates: Women in History at Harvard and Radcliffe (see Book Archives , March 2004) .
