WHAT IS OUR MISSION? The success of Richmonds economic competitiveness and quality of life depends, to a large extent, on the quality and number of years of higher education our young people receive. Employers in our community require employees that can not only read, write and solve problems, but also communicate and demonstrate leadership skills. Without skilled employees, Richmonds economic future is uncertain. To be an economic leader in our community, state and nation, we must first be a leader in the education of our children. Yes, it's true. Richmond High School has an alumni association and we want to tell you about it. In 1990, after decades of increasing numbers of high school students dropping out, or not going to college after high school graduation, the superintendent's office and community business leaders, decided it was time for a "culture change". Hence, the Richmond College Incentive Plan was born. The goal of the Richmond College Incentive Plan (RCIP) is a tuition free education at any of the local colleges. Even though the RHS/Morton High School Alumni Association was founded one hundred years earlier (1890), it had not been very active. However, the RCIP founders felt an Alumni Association was the perfect type of organization to administer their program so the Association was revitalized. After ten years of hard work, members of the Class of 2000 were the first recipients of the Richmond College Incentive Plan scholarship dollars.

Extractions: About 300 graduates of Rancho High School are involved in a formally organized nonprofit alumni group to support their alma mater in practical ways. Organized in 2001, the Rancho High School Alumni Association has already done numerous good deeds. It raised matching money for a tutoring fund to help seniors pass their state proficiency exams. It placed a money changer machine in the school library so students can easily make photocopies when doing academic research. It established a fund to buy athletic safety gear. It started a scholarship program to assist two fresh graduates each year. It sponsors a Happy Holidays program, in which needy students receive a backpack filled with useful goods such as calculators, dictionaries and digital wristwatches, as well as a gift card to use at local stores. "We all loved going to school, and we all appreciated the direction that it gave us," says Larry Lermusiaux, class of '69. A real estate agent, he is one of the founders of the group and currently what he calls "lead sled dog" in getting the word out to other alumni.
