Extractions: The Basics : Hair loss is a very common cause for visits to the dermatologist's office. Hair loss can be caused by many things, but most commonly results from a combination of both genetic tendencies (that are inherited from both sides of the family) and hormonal changes. This type of hair loss is know as pattern hair loss or androgenetic alopecia and happens both in men and women. Men tend to see a recession of the hair line by the temples as well as loss on the top, or vertex, of the scalp. Women tend to preserve the frontal hair line and lose hair across the crown. Hair loss can occur at any age but usually happens later in life. The mechanism behind pattern hair loss is changes that occur in the hair follicle due to DHT. DHT is a hormone that results from conversion of testosterone by an enzyme known as 5-alpha reductase. General advice
Extractions: Acne affects millions of adults and teenagers every year. Standard therapies for acne include topical creams, washes and antibiotic pills. More aggressive therapies offered by Dr. Poole include Acne (Chemical) Peels, Acne Surgery, Microdermabrasion, and Accutane. Laser and Light sources represent some of the newest and most powerful alternatives towards treating acne without the side effects of antibiotics or Accutane. Acne scars are permanent reminders of prior acne damage. Laser therapy of acne scarring has offered powerful new, effective alternatives for this very difficult condition. These scars can take many different shapes, sizes and forms and therefore may require a number of different approaches. Therapies commonly employed for acne scarring may include: excision, punch excision, punch elevation, subcision, dermabrasion, and chemical peels. Alopeica Areata typically results in round areas of hair loss in the scalp. In very unusual conditions, the hair loss may involve the entire scalp or other body hair. While many patients will get better on their own, some do not. Standard therapies for Alopecia Areata may include: Topical steroids, topical immunomodulators, intralesional (shots) of steroids, oral steroids, Ultraviolet light, and immunotherapy.
