Dr. Taylor is the Director and Principle Investigator of the Jackson Heart Study, a prospective epidemiological investigation of cardiovascular disease among African-Americans from the Jackson, Mississippi metropolitan area. The initial phase of the study, which hopes to include up to 6500 African-American men and women between the ages of 35 and 84 years, began in 2000. The study hopes to provide the kind of information for this population that the Framingham Heart Study in Massachusetts established for its participants.
