Extractions: Cumberland Mountain State Park is situated on the Cumberland Plateau, a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama. It is said to be the largest timbered plateau in America. This 1,720-acre park was acquired in 1938 as a project of the Farm Security Administration to provide a recreational area for some 250 families selected to homestead on the Cumberland Plateau. The Homestead Museum, located one mile from the park, depicts the Cumberland Homestead Community of the 1930's. This community built the park along with help from the CCC and WPA. Directions Take Interstate 40-East from Nashville, West from Knoxville-Exit on #317. Travel south on US Hwy 127 for 9 miles, park entrance is on the right. Programs Cumberland Mountain State Park provides interpretive programs June-August provided by the seasonal naturalist and seasonal recreation directors. The programs cover a broad spectrum of interests. Groups with specific interests can call the park to arrange special programs. Park rangers are available for programs on a year round basis.

Decatur, AL 35602 (256)341-4930 2005 Audition Application get Acrobat Reader Decatur Youth Symphony Announces Auditions for 2005-2006 Session Decatur Youth Symphony Announces Auditions for 2005-06 Season Decatur Parks and Recreation and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra announce auditions for the Decatur Youth Symphony's 2005-06 season. DYS meets on Tuesday evenings, and the first rehearsal is on September 6, 2005 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the bandroom of Cedar Ridge Middle School. The winter concert is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. Admission to DYS is by audition. Audition applications will be accepted beginning August 1, with auditions taking place by appointment on August 16, 20 and 27, 2005. There is no fee required to audition. DYS is accepting applications from young musicians who play orchestral strings (violin, viola, cello and bass), woodwinds, brass and percussion. Suggested previous experience is a minimum of one year playing experience. Students in the After-School violin program, private lessons, band programs and similar instructional programs are encouraged to audition. The activity fee for the Decatur Youth Symphony is $100 per year. Financial assistance is available to qualified students who demonstrate need. Information is available by calling Youth Services at 256-340-2588 (Decatur). Fees cover all instruction, materials, performances, field trips and other activities. One of the activities of the DYS is to visit open dress rehearsals of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra.
