Chemical and bioindustry engineer Training for the degree of Agronomist, specialisation general agriculture, is based on four main disciplines: plant production, animal production, ecology and economics. As a specialist in large-scale arable farming (cereals, industrial crops and fodder crops), the agronomist knows how to apply or develop advanced plant breeding, fertilisation and crop protection technologies. Harvesting, storage and use of produce and, currently, research into high-quality production are part of his or her work. Wide knowledge of animal production enables the agronomist to tackle temperate-region cattle, sheep and pig breeding techniques without any problems. Training in agricultural economics, accounting, marketing, law, data processing and statistics provides a rounded view of farm business management, from production through to marketing and processing of produce.

Prospectus Organisation des études de 2ème cycle pour les étudiants en cours d'étude Organisation des études de 2ème cycle à partir de 2007-2008 General agronomy Agronomy of tropical and subtropical regions Animal science Forestry ... Chemical and bioindustry engineer Agronomists who have taken this training should be able to quickly find their place in plant and animal production sectors in the vast tropical and subtropical regions, as design engineers or as implementation/application engineers. The teaching provides a general basic knowledge of plant and animal production, with wide and detailed attention to the specific features of hot regions. All aspects are specifically covered: climate, soil, large scale food and industrial crops (including fruit and market garden crops), zoology and animal science applied to hot regions. Plant and animal breeding and the study of the possibility of intensification by limited use of inputs and appropriate agricultural mechanisation are taken into consideration, as well as the economics of developing countries and study of their markets. This course is of necessity very comprehensive, as it concerns all areas of agriculture: environment management, plant production, animal production, agricultural mechanisation, small-scale hydro schemes, basics of food produce storage and technology in such regions, agricultural economics, etc. Once in the field, hot-region agronomists must be able to work on their own initiative in all the areas mentioned.
