CBP agriculture specialists must meet strict educational requirements and receive intensive, scientific-based training developed and administered jointly by USDA and CBP. Agriculture specialists protect the United States from the threat of invasive pests and diseases with inspection and prevention efforts designed to keep prohibited agricultural items from entering the United States. These items, whether in commercial cargo or as âhitchhikersâ with an international airline passenger or a pedestrian crossing the border, could cause serious damage to Americaâs crops, livestock, and the environment.
