Extractions: by James Houston Turner This is a pacey thriller that can mix it up with the best of the genre. A tight storyline combined with lots of plot twists and turns makes for a great read. I found myself reading the entire book in one day; not bad considering I was not long out of the hospital and still a bit hard of concentration. A tablet possibly attributed to Ishmael centres the entire storyline with all its insundry complications. Its contest, if verified, could please one side in the Middle East while infuriating the others. Extremists on all sides want to get ahold of it to either use it for their justification or destroy it. Along for the ride in the tale are sleeper cells, rogue agents, deep cover agents and at least a few analysts. As I said there is enough plot to keep anyone who likes this sort of novel happy.

Not many people have two birthdays, but acclaimed fiction author James Houston Turner has been receiving sweet sixteen birthday wishes from all over the world via his MySpace site. The sweet sixteen actually refers to Turners 1991 cancer operation, where doctors at Australias Royal Adelaide Hospital cut out half of his jaw bone in order to excise a malignant tumor the size of an orange. They then fashioned him a new jaw bone out of hip bone, grafted skin and vessels from his arm into his mouth, where teeth and gums used to be, took muscles and arteries from his other arm to reconstruct his face, then grafted skin from his thigh back onto his arm. Turner was told if he lived eighteen months, he would probably live to be 100. After 16 years, I am happy to report I am well on my way toward that goal! Turner exclaims. But it has not been an easy battle.

Extractions: The Yellow Stone The steamboat Yellow Stone On March 31, 1836, Sam Houston impressed the Yellow Stone into service to ferry his army across the flooding Brazos River. Beginning on April 12, the Yellow Stone began a series of seven trips transporting the Texas army into place at Groce's Landing. Houston later said the boat's service enabled his army to "save Texas." On April 15, Houston released the boat, and it steamed down the Brazos to Galveston, braving Mexican gunfire from the shore. On April 26, President David G. Burnet and his cabinet took refuge on board the Yellow Stone . A week later, on May 4, the Yellow Stone took Burnet and the cabinet to Buffalo Bayou to negotiate with the captured Santa Anna. Over the next several days, the boat ferried a number of passengers, including Houston and Santa Anna, as the negotiations took place. The Yellow Stone is known to have transported the body of Stephen F. Austin to his burial place at Peach Point Plantation in December 1836. It also moved the Texas government to the city of Houston in the spring of 1837.

John Breitkreuz of Weimar, Victor and Oscar Tiemann of Halletsville, August Tiemann and Herman Andreas of Nelsonville, and Adolf Teltschik of Palo Pinto county acting as pall bearers. Mr. Bernhard Tiemann was born March 6. 1846, in Westphalen. Germany. He was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmine Rosenbaum on Aug. 1, 1867, and came to America in the year 1870. The first three years the young couple were in America they lived in the Brenham section, then moved to the New Bielau community, and from there to Weimar in 1908, where they lived up to the death of his beloved wife Jan. 3. 1931, when Mr. Tiemann moved to Halletsville to make his home with his son. Mr. Adolf Tiemann. Mr. Tiemann is survived by six children, 29 grandchildren and 28 greatgrandchildren. The living children are Mrs. Mina Andreas of Houston, Mr. Henry Tiemann of Chapel Hill, Mrs. 0. Breitkreuz of Weimar. Mrs. Rudolf Teltschik of Strawn, Mr. Adolf Tiemann. of Halletsville and Mr. Willie Tiemann of Nelsonville. Two children of this couple died in infancy.
