But the ambitious commander finds herself irreconcilably drawn to a charismatic, kind and hopeful stranger. Click here for more on Cry of Justice or read our review Once long ago, in a place that is no longer a place With that classic beginning, Kevin Scott Munnings lures readers into the convincing world of Blood of the Ancients . By the third page, he has deftly introduced the main characters Skat and Kiernan and explained the hated facial thongs they must wear because of their deformities, which we would call only birthmarks. Further initiation into the cruelties of life for the Ammereh-razi soon follows. They cannot have spouses, produce children or own property, but must live their lives as slaves simply because they look different. As we join our two heroes, they are breaking out of their regimented existence. This immediately makes the reading audience sympathize with them. Along the way, they meet some fascinating characters, not the least of which is Timms. With his disheveled appearance, aromatic presence, and vocal performances, Timms takes some getting used to. He speeds the adjustment period up by becoming invaluable to his new young person friends.
Rosemary Stubbs (Clare Munnings) Clare munnings is the nomde-plume of Jill Ker Conway and Elizabeth Topham Kennan. She tells her good friend kevin Oxley, professor of classics, Having http://homepage.ntlworld.com/philipg/detectives/stubbs.html
Extractions: Rosemary Stubbs had been chief financial officer at a New York computer firm. She had been happily married but her husband, Jim, had been drowned in a storm while out sailing. "After Jim died," she explains, "I began going to church again. It didn't matter. The loneliness was the same. But I couldn't go back to being a CFO". So, soon after her 35th birthday, she had given up her job to enter Yale Divinity School "as an experiment, I suppose". Aged 38, she had finished her course and did not know what she should do next. Then she was invited to become chaplain at Sanderson, a women's liberal arts college in Vermont. Her appearance is described as "under six feet but still tall, fairish hair brushed back off the face, hazel eyes, mouth slightly too wide for the pointed chin. Too tailored, maybe, But there was no getting around it. She couldn't look trendy if she tried". Clare Munnings is the nom-de-plume of Jill Ker Conway and Elizabeth Topham Kennan Jill Ker Conway (1934- ) was born and raised, along with her two brothers, at Coorain in the remote Australian outback. It was a hard and lonely life with no schooling beyond that provided by her mother and a governess. It is described in her much praised autobiography

Extractions: Overnight Float by Clare Munnings (Penguin, $5.99, NV) 0-14-200011-6 After her husbands death by drowning, Rosemary Stubbs, the Chief Financial Officer of a large corporation, reevaluates her life. At the age of thirty-five she decides on a career change and enters the Yale Divinity School. Late in her studies, she is asked to be a last-minute substitution on a discussion panel on ethics for college business managers. There she meets Blanche Werner, the financial manager for Sanderson College, a womens college in Vermont. Impressed with Rosemarys presentation, she informs her that the college is looking for a chaplain and recommends Rosemary apply. Rosemary falls in love with Sandersons Vermont location, and after some reflection on the direction of her career, she accepts the position. She hasnt even had time to unpack her books when on an early morning jog with her poodle, she discovers Blanches dead body in the college swimming pool. She hears a number of people, both faculty and student, complain about the severe budget cutbacks that Blanche was instituting. The Olympic-quality sports programs were to be especially hard hit. An autopsy points to foul play as the cause of death. Rosemary meets several other faculty members including Sanderson College President Eames, Kevin Oxley, a Classics professor, and Claus Henderson, the biology professor who had had a long-standing love affair with Blanche. She also becomes acquainted with the Hispanic police detective Rafael Ramirez, who is in charge of the police investigation.

August 17th, 2005 But whilst his oil paintings command a £1m plus price tag at auction, a unique and less pricey piece of Sir Alfred Munnings memorabilia is set to go under the hammer later this month - his voice. A very rare recording of the Suffolk born artist reading a poem in 1949 is part of a collection of personal letters and pencil sketches, which provide a fascinating insight into his life. The collection, which is being sold by a Worcestershire art dealer, is anticipated to fetch up to £10,000 at a Norfolk salesroom because of the high interest from Munnings followers locally and abroad. Munnings, with a distinct regional accent, makes a number of mistakes on the scratchy recording and at one point shouts ¢â¬Åoh hell¢â¬Â and starts another passage. There are also around 150 pencilled letters written to his good friend and fellow artist Maurice Codner, plus press cuttings, catalogues and photos of Munnings relaxing on a Suffolk beach, working in his studio in Dedham, Essex, and playing with his dogs.

Sunday January 29 th , 2006 saw the beginning of hopefully what will be things to come for the Jeff's Auto Repair (JAR Cycling) Elite Amateur Cycling Squad. It was the perfect morning for a bike race. The stage was set by a still and slightly overcast morning on the popular 4-mile circuit course opposite Super Club Breezes on the Cable Beach strip. The 28 mile (7 lap) race drew a small field of riders including Tracey Sweeting, Daryl Munnings, John Cox and jr. rider Kevin Richardson from JAR Cycling, Barron Musgrove and Jamie Nottage from VMG Racing, as well as multiple Bahamian Road Cycling Champion Johnny Hoyte out of Grand Bahama. Also participating were independent riders Wayne Price and Tim Huber. The first 4 laps got under way at an aggressive pace with most of the attacking coming by way of Johnny Hoyte. The race remained under the close watch of Tracey Sweeting who controlled most of the attacking by Hoyte. The final laps saw Musgrove showing his trademark strength with some impressive pulls that put the entire field under pressure. The JAR squad survived all the race had to give remaining in control from beginning to end riding selflessly to create the best opportunity for the win. On lap six Munnings of the JAR squad put in a monster pull to bridge the gap back to the last of Hoytes attempts to break away from the bunch. This effort put Sweeting and Cox in the perfect situation to pressure Hoyte on the last lap.
