Though I was born in Japan, I was steeped in the musical culture of Salzburg throughout my childhood and student years. So, like me, this series comes to Toronto via Salzburg. Canada's premier horn player James Sommerville, Japanese sensation, pianist Ikuyo Nakamichi, and violinist Mayumi Seiler join forces in a collaboration spanning three continents. Mr. Sommerville, recently appointed Principal Horn with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, has recently won a Juno award. Just prior to her appearance at Glenn Gould Studio, Ms. Nakamichi will perform as soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra under the baton of Pinchas Zuckerman. The programme here includes Beethoven's Horn Sonata op. 17, Brahm's Violin Sonata op.108, and Mendelssohn's Variations Serieuses for Piano.
