Extractions: Violine Biography A critic wrote of Vadim Repin "He can master the most dangerous challenges with an almost provocative serenity." Fiery passion with impeccable technique, poetry and sensitivity are Repin's trademarks, and his name has rapidly become synonymous with the violin. An advocate of new music, Vadim Repin has received international accolades for his performances of John Adams' Violin Concerto and Gubaidulina's Offertorium, and this season will premiere a new concerto by Daniel Brubaker with the Baltimore Symphony. Vadim Repin has been a frequent guest at festivals such as the Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood, Ravinia, Rheingau, Verbier and the BBC Proms. SACD Review - Hilary Hahn: Mendelssohn & Shostakovich - Violin Concertos Hilary Hahn (violin), Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (Mendelssohn Violin Concerto At this point, I stopped Hahn s disc and put on my copy of vadim repin s http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewsdvdasacd/hahnhilarymendelssohnviolinsacd.ht
Extractions: Hilary Hahn was recently called America's best young classical musician by Time magazine. Not that I'd hang my hat on anything musically meaningful within those pages, but in this case, I'd have to agree. But to dwell on the fact that Hahn is 22 and then to remark on how surprisingly well she plays is to completely miss the mark and also to qualify her ability; she's no longer a child prodigy. Her playing is quite mature and her interpretations confident. Her cup of talent is full to the brim.

Extractions: Recorded live, 2-4 July 2002, Mikaeli-Martti Talvela Hall, Mikkeli, Finland A big violinistic personality, flamboyant in Tchaikovsky, perceptive and persuasive in Myaskovsky Ive always thought of Vadim Repin as among the most gifted of younger Russian-born violinists, even on the evidence of his earliest recordings (those for Erato). His first Tchaikovsky Concerto, for example, was notable for its tender, even tremulous tone, its sensitive phrasing and apt sentiment. Very occasionally one sensed that the subtler mechanics of Repins technique needed fine tuning, but listening to this remake under Valery Gergiev confirms just how far Repin has journeyed in a mere few years. Tone projection is stronger (admittedly the new recording accentuates the fact), attack more aggressive and Repins solo demeanour seems better focused than before, far more confident and spontaneous. Mixed in with these improvements are one or two affectations, nothing too drastic but the sort that tend to work better in concert than on disc. Take the beginning of the finale, with its pregnant hesitations and splayed pizzicati. Fun? Yes. Durable? Possibly not. But its a cracking performance, one of the best from the younger generation, and dynamically accompanied under Gergiev, although the recording sounds like a digital update of the sort of blowsy in-your-face sonics typical of the first stereo recordings of the late 1950s.

Her latest Sony release tackles the Mendelssohn and the Shostakovich First Hahn Mendelssohn Shostakovich Stalin Stalin regime. Shostakovich Stalin to triumphant reviews. But enough of history lessons. Hilary Hahn Mendelssohn concerto is outstanding. Her sweetness of tone is emphatic yet not overtly emotional, which if not properly gauged can kill a performance of this wonderful concerto. Technically, her playing is superb. She is given sympathetic and thoughtful support from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra led by Hugh Wolff Hahn is in complete command of the Mendelssohn piece. Nothing is lacking in her interpretation of Mendelssohn , and although there might be more glorious versions, ( Heifetz Charles Munch and The Boston Symphony Orchestra or Menuhin with Wilhelm Furtwangler and The Berlin Philharmonic come to mind), her performance is first rate. St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra vadim repin, Violin. PROKOFIEV Excerpts from The Love for Three Oranges vadim repin, Violin A critic wrote of vadim repin He can master the most http://www.carnegiehall.org/textSite/box_office/events/evt_4302.html
Extractions: High spirits dominate the second of the St. Petersburg Philharmonicâs concerts, in which plenty of southern sunshine infiltrates the Slavic souls of three very different composers. First comes Prokofiev in knockabout mood with the celebrated march and other hit numbers from his commedia dellâarteâbased comedy The Love for Three Oranges, the opera with which he made his mark in America during the early 1920s. Tchaikovsky shows his more lovable, relaxed side in the inspired stream of mostly cheerful melodic writing that is the Violin Concerto, completed in central Europe as the composer triedâultimately successfullyâto put himself together after the trauma of his failed marriage. The dance goes on in DvoÅ¡kâs Eighth Symphonyâa work in which the great Czech composer left behind the influences of Wagner and Brahms that had colored his earlier symphonies in quest of his own, fundamentally cheerful identity.
