The British Horn Society: 1996 Horn News He is presently studying the French horn with Richard watkins. After studiesin Nantes and Ville d Avray, JeanEmmanuel went to the Paris Conservatoire http://www.british-horn.org/news1996.html
Extractions: THE BRITISH HORN SOCIETY 1996 Horn News Paxman Prizewinner Jennifer Montone from the U.S.A. won the Paxman Young Horn Player competition. The final, held at London's Guildhall School of Music on Sunday 8 December 1996, was between Jennifer, James Nickel, also from the U.S.A., and Rupert Johnston and Mark Almond from the U.K.. Each of the four finalists played a demanding programme: James Nickel: Richard Strauss: Concerto No.1 In front of the distinguished jury of leading horn players - Timothy Jones, Frank Lloyd, Hugh Seenan, Michael Thompson and Richard Watkins - each of the finalists demonstrated playing of a very high technical standard, coupled with remarkable endurance. On the night Jennifer, accompanied by Andrew Black, clinched the title with a display of considerable emotional power, which demonstrated enviable security too, only nicking two notes in the whole of her performance. Jennifer's prize is a specially built Paxman horn, which will be built to her specification over the next few weeks, and presented to her in New York.

Cookin' In The Motor City (part 1) johnson s brass band, like the brass bands led by John Robichaux in New Orleans Walton was a unanimous favorite, but Jean Goldkette ruled the roost. http://www.metrotimes.com/music/special/jazzhist/51jazzhist.html
Extractions: Metro Times contributing editor Herb Boyd, a firsthand observer of the Detroit scene from the '50s to the present, gives us a personal tour through the amazingly rich, world-renowned history of jazz in our city. This is the first of a three-part account which begins with Herb in high school, then digs back to the 19th-century musical roots of Detroit and moves back up chronologically to developments in the present. Roy's paradiddles that expressive way he had of rolling a downbeat with two pencils were often so loud I was sure Miss Vyn, our study hall counselor, heard them. But like most of us in the room, she had grown accustomed to his antics, his drum imitations, and rarely lifted more than an eyebrow, knowing it was the irrepressible Roy. And he would sit there with a devilish grin, living up to his claim as class clown, his bow tie and neatly coiffed Quo Vadis haircut framing his ebony face.

In January 1996 I finished the arduous task of cataloging my collection of vinyl disks , which you are also invited to check out. This is not a scholarly listing. No details of interest to audiophiles are included. Anyone really interested in details on any listed item can write me at lynn.newton@cox.net Some have written asking whether any of my recordings are for sale. The answer is no! Others have written asking whether I will burn CD copies of recordings for them. The answer is no! Number of times I've listened. Yes, I actually record this when I remember. No, it's not very accurate, but close. n Never listened. New or Suzy's or Cyra-Lea's and I haven't been interested enough to get around to it. Some of them I'm embarrassed to let others know that I have. Ugh. multi-CD sets, e.g., 3,1,2 = 3-CD set listened to 3, 1, 2 times per disk. Haven't got it yet, but am expecting to have it soon.
