Tomato Nation I ve never heard of Joshua Bell, the violinist, but he s quite fetching. Christian bale belongs on the list. So does Sela Ward, come to think of it, http://www.earlygirl.com/50most2.shtml
Extractions: ...I get to make fun of the beautiful people. Rupert Everett is beautiful, yes sirree. Queen Rania of Jordan is not beautiful, no sirree. I will say in her defense that she's probably taken far better pictures than the one People ran. And she does have excellent hair. I would kill for hair that thick. Okay, I can't even tell if she's beautiful or not from this photo, so it's a no-decision for Queen Rania. Yum - Billy Campbell. Yet another one that comes down to personal preference. I think he's beautiful, in an old-fashioned way. Michelle Kwan is beautiful. Jan-Michael Gambill, tennis player and cheese puff, isn't beautiful. If the Backstreet Boys had a Stu Sutcliffe, it would be Jan-Michael Gambill. Too much bleach on the head, not enough hair on the chest. I just don't like that gel-monkey look. Soledad O'Brien is a tough call. I have a pet peeve regarding leather pants: I don't wear leather pants because I have a beanbaggy ass and they don't look right, but I absolutely can't deal with it when other people wear leather pants but they don't wear them rock-star tight. Like, it's a pair of LEATHER PANTS. Jim Morrison, people! Jimi Hendrix! Sex, drugs, and rock and roll - in that order! Go hard or go home! If you haven't had them fitted, there's no point, frankly, and the whole well-to-do-professional-woman-in-her-thirties-in-leather-slacks look doesn't cut it. Anyway, Soledad has a pair of leather slacks on in the picture, which works against her, but I guess she's beautiful, although she's probably another one who should thank God for the makeup lady.

Extractions: Eugene Wei's personal weblog Main During my road trip from Seattle down to Los Angeles to deliver my car to Karen, I snapped a few photos. Many were shot blind as I drove, right hand on the steering wheel, left hand pointing a compact digital camera out the car window. By the way, I don't advise doing that unless you have multiprocessors in the brain. I swerved on to the shoulder a few times. My last game at Safeco Field. Sang took me to see the Mariners play the Twins. I looked at the lineup and thought two things: "Johan Santana is pitching, and he's filthy, and Justin Morneau is a good young hitter." Santana pitched one run ball for 7 innings, and Morneau hit two homers. Santana went on to win the Cy Young, and he was the best pitcher in baseball this year. I was grateful to see him during his amazing second half run, to see major league hitters flail over the top of his daffy duck changeup. How does he grip it, I wonder, and how crazy is it that he can throw it 75 mph out of his palm when I can't throw a baseball at that velocity holding it normally?

Extractions: THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE The opening credits proclaim that this is "a true story." Well, except for the real name of the purportedly possessed lass (Anneliese Michel), her actual age (15, not a college attendee), and the country in which the dramatized events occurred (Germany). Moreover, the most interesting aspect about a demonically tortured young woman who dies during an exorcism isn't the trial of the Catholic priest who oversaw it. Yet, director Scott Derrickson insists on presenting a pilot for , with defense attorney Laura Linney locking horns with dogged prosecutor Campbell Scott. In this week's episode, we learn whether Father Moore (a lost Tom Wilkinson) will face hard time for the death of Emily (a surprisingly game Jennifer Carpenter). Those pesky flashbacks of Emily's affliction get overrun by courtroom minutiae and how unseen dark forces torment Linney and others connected with the story. Like the video tape in The Ring , I suspect this film is an instrument of that diabolical scheme. Rated R.

With the undertaking being as ambitious as it was and the natural disaster issues involved I thought you did remarkably well. got to see the "regular" show. One thing and you may not have even noticed this, but for all the troubles, er I mean "fun" you were having, oh you know, like standing up at the end of the night, you went into Back In The USSR / Dear Prudence and it was like you became completely sober for just those two songs. It was like you had them so drilled into your bodies that you couldn't mess them up if you tried. It was actually very funny, and my friend and I kept looking at each other in amazement and laughing. The "owner" (really?) bought everyone a shot for the bar's anniversary. The waitress had a giant tattoo of a tree that covered her entire back. It was like being in The Twilight Zone. What ever is next, we'll be there.

It's the dubbed version though, but having Batman (Christian Bale) and Emily Mortimer voice the lead parts was quite exciting. Perhaps I made the mistake of reading the book before the movie came out. I loved the book immensely (so did my mom, who read it on one of her visits here), and wanted a film that worked in all my favorite aspects of the novel. I believe Miyazaki kept in many things - Howl being incredibly vain, the green gobbledy-goo scene, a very mousy Sophie, a cheeky Calcifer - but certain things seemed too random and inexplicable, perhaps out-of-place in the film Miyazaki aimed to make.

Extractions: The Return of the Pink Panther Comedy Artisan Entertainment G Peter Sellers was one of the most gifted comic actors of the 1960s and 1970s; Inspector Clouseau was his most beloved role. Blake Edwards, the film's director and creator, was a master of both subtle humor and slapstick. For these reasons, The Return of the Pink Panther is a true classic for many of us. It's a movie that never fails to leave me in a great mood. However, as other reviewers have noted, there are some serious issues with the DVD. I purchased it (and am glad I did) because I didn't have a VHS copy of the film. To be honest, I don't know what advantage this particular DVD can offer versus a VHS, since there are no real extras here, and no choice between widescreen and full screen (and no anamorphic widescreen!). I sincerely hope that this film is reissued in the future, complete with outtakes and remastered sound, and treated with the respect it deserves.

You'll have great cultural war stories to inflict on the grandkids ("Well, young'uns, I remember when the whole stage at the Civic Center would fill up with them real musiciansno hollygrams or amplification way back then, by crackee!"). Certainly one of the most newsworthy tales revolves around Fabio Mechetti 's recent decision to leave his post as music director of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra following the 1998-'99 season. The surprise announcement on Sept. 4, well before the start of his next-to-last season, means a number of artistic and marketing challenges for the SSO, including the continued attraction of funds and audience to an organization that might be perceived as in flux. This SSO season seems a solid affair, with perhaps a bit more front-loaded star power than usual, as pianist

Extractions: Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is a university archaeologist who gets into his job just a bit more than your standard archaeologist. He's an adverturer, collector, lover, and smart aleck and he's a dead shot with his bullwhip. In his first cinematic adventure (at least insofar as theatrical release; Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom , chronologically, predates this film), Jones travels all over the globe to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do. The Nazis believe that, by seeing such an infamous religious artifact in their possession, the world will bow down to their might. This film marks the return of the great American adventure flick and jacked the bar up so high for all action-adventure films that followed. Although the Star Wars movies made Ford a recognized screen star, this movie made him a superstar, a household name, and a sex symbol all at the same time. Raising Helen The last thing a Manhattan socialite needs is to be hampered down by kids. But when Helen Harris' (Kate Hudson) sister and her husband are killed in a car accident, their three kids are left in Helen's custody, much to her and her other sister's (Joan Cusack) chagrin. As would be expected, the kids make life tough for Helen both financially, socially, and professionally, but, as time goes by, all four of them grow into their new roles in their new family. While the film was cute, it definitely had its fair share of cinematic cliches. In all honesty, the best parts in this film involve John Corbett as Pastor Dan Parker, the principal of the Lutheran school the kids begin to attend and the love interest of Helen. Pay particular attention to the hockey sequences and the names of the teams. I couldn't stop laughing.

Extractions: This tune has great memories for me...this is the product of a wonderful weekend when my friend Anna Schaad ( http://www.bima.com/anna ), a great violinist, came to visit and "record something". I had set up a click and roughed out something on the Dobro, but it wasn't until we had the words (which were actually 2 seperate songs written by Anna that I mistakenly crunched together), that it started to take shape. The dobro is an interesting sound, recorded from a greater distance than I normally record the instrument, and beefed with an RCA BA-6A on "stun". The Chamberlin is a cool sound leading into the viola soloI love what a Chamberlin does for just about any track...The Marxaphone is also an interesting soundI had been looking for one of those for years, and found one about a week before this session.
