The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end-zone, similar to an end-zone in American football or rugby . Players may not run while holding the disc. Ultimate is distinguished by its spirit of the game âthe principles of fair play, sportsmanship , and the joy of play. While originally called "Ultimate Frisbee", " Frisbee " is the trademark for the line of discs made by the Wham-O toy company. In fact, discs made by Wham-O competitor Discraft are the standard discs for the game. Today, the game is simply known as "Ultimate". Joel Silver proposed a school Frisbee team on a whim in the fall of 1967. Extractions: The Los Alamos Ultimate Frisbee Club exists to provide the opportunity for playing Ultimate Frisbee. While there is a small core of players who live in Los Alamos year round the ultimate scene benefits greatly from the annual influx of summer students. Play is informal, although we do follow the standard UPA rules. We have regular intrasquad scrimmages at the Upper Pueblo soccer fields. Park behind Pueblo School (1900 Diamond Drive) We typically "practice" 2-3 times per week once daylight savings time begins in April until it ends in October. All players are welcome and there are no club dues. If you don't know how to play, we will be happy to let you play while you learn. Some of the LA players travel to tournaments outside of Los Alamos and each year we host the Atomic Blast tournament which attracts teams from New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. If you want to learn a bit about ultimate, get a great workout, and meet some new people, this is the place for you!

Frisbee Spew Experience has taught us that the single best indicator for success at nationals is the results of the previous yearâs nationals. This isnât a new idea; weâve known this for as long as Iâve been playing. Whatâs interesting is that the previous yearâs results have become and increasingly smaller factor in determining seeding. I think there are a few reasons for this: 1) the format gurus (ok, mostly just Tarr) have convinced us that seeds arenât meant to be predictive 2) we now have access to a lot more regular season results 3) we have been influenced by the method for seeding college â where the amount of turnover makes the previous years results a lot less indicative of success. Another factor which seems to be completely ignored is when teams bring less that full-strength squad to tournaments. From the standpoint of creating an algorithm, itâs not clear how you account for this. However, in ignoring the strength of the team that actually showed up to a tournament we are throwing away usual information.
