Extractions: The first recorded "motorized" pulling event took place in 1929 at Bowling Green, MO. As man and machine grew together, the sport of pulling started taking shape. It grew throughout the 50's and into the 60's. What it lacked through these years was a uniform set of rules from state to state and county to county. Competitors never knew what the rules were going to be from event to event. By the 70's, different associations across the country were formed to establish uniform rules and to give the sport the structure it needed. One of the associations formed was the Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pulling Association. In OTTPA early years of pulling, the mini rods, whose ancestor is the family garden tractor; evolved into a chasis with a supercharged V-8 providing the power. Then another group of vehicles entered pulling and captured fan loyalty immediately. This new division was the four-wheel drive. This was the first truck division to be associated with pulling. As competitors looked for the competitive edge in this division the size of the engine grew from the 450 range to 600 and 700+. They are naturally aspirated, no blown engines. To find blown engines, fans need only to look at the two-wheel drive division. This division became official in 1982 and the wheel standing action makes it one of the crowd's favorites.

Extractions: The 2007 Budweiser Dairyland Super National Truck and Tractor Pull took place on June 22 - 24th, 2007. It was a picture perfect long weekend for the event. The weather cooperated this year and we had near record attendance. The new light system was installed prior to the pull this year and worked perfectly, giving the fans a great view of the track. We started out on Friday Morning with the 2007 Full Pullers Kids Klub. Children 14 and under were treated to Driver Autographs, photos, Hot Dogs and Beverages. Each participant received a Free T-Shirt. They also were able to get into the 1:00 p.m. show Free with a paid adult. The Light Super Stock, SM FWD Trucks and Pro Stocks Classes pulled without a hitch. However, Friday morning the motor on the Mini Sled had problems. The team from Bauer Built Mfg. drove back to Iowa to get another motor. Unfortunately, they were not able to get the sled in running order before the end of the session. We ran an exhibition Class of the Super Semis in its place and we honored the Friday afternoon tickets for the Friday evening session when the Mini's would be pulling. The Bauer Team arrived back from Iowa and changed motors in the sled so we could run the Mini Class Friday Night. A job well done by Bauer Built Mfg. Friday night started out with the Annual "Salute to the Military" Motorcycle Cycle Parade. There were over 200 Motorcycles in the line-up and on the track for the National Anthem. Friday night, the TWD Truck, Super Farm, Modifieds and Super Semis ran. After these classes were complete, we ran the Mini-Rods from the afternoon session. All went well, except that we completed pulling at 1:30 a.m.

Usually the sled offers progressively greater resistance as it is pulled. It can be a great spectacle, and although the vehicle produces a great deal of noise and smoke and throws dirt everywhere, it doesn't actually travel very far. There are many different classes, from 'factory' tractors to custom built vehicles with multiple engines . There are even one tenth scale radio control (R/C) models that pull scale sleds. It is said that around the 1860s when farming machines were pulled by horse , farmers would boast about the strength of their horses. They would claim that their horse could tow large loads, such as a fully loaded hay cart or wagon . Farmers would challenge one another to contests to prove who had the strongest horse. A barn door was removed and laid flat on the ground, the horse was then hitched to it and the farmer ushered the horse to drag the barn door along the ground. One by one, people jumped on the door until the horse could no longer drag it; the horse pulling the most people the greatest distance was judged the strongest. This event, called
