Extractions: When Harry Langdon 's Tramp, Tramp, Tramp premiered in March 1926, it was greeted by moviegoers as a worthy challenger to the great films of Charles Chaplin Buster Keaton , and Harold Lloyd . Langdon was hailed as "the fourth comedy genius." That heady feeling was reinforced when, in September of 1926, Langdon appeared in an even better picture, Frank Capra 's The Strong Man Langdon's on-screen character was an intriguing enigma. He was certainly an adult male, but at times it seemed you were watching a large baby, naïve and even infantile. In The Strong Man , we first see him as Paul, a Belgian soldier in the World War I trenches. But he's not much for machine guns. Actually, Paul is more interested in reading his penpal letters from America than fighting a war. An American girl who calls herself Mary Brown writes to him regularly, and with her latest missive she's included a small photo of herself. Her note says, unflinchingly, "I love you, I love you, I love you." Paul is captured by a large German ( Arthur Thalasso ), who carries him off as his personal prisoner. But soon the Armistice is declared, both Paul and his captor are private citizens again, and they travel to America. The German is a strong man who bills himself as The Great Zandow, and Paul is his new assistant.

Vaclav Klaus (former prime minister of the Czech Republic), Vladimir Meciar (former strongman and prime minister of Slovakia), Ljubco Georgievski (until 2002 the outspoken prime minister of Macedonia), Viktor Orban (voted out as prime minister of Hungary in late 2002) - all strident anti-communists - are shunned by the great democracies.

We have just been notified that we might have to move the date and location due to the fact that Torbay Carnival committee have said that they are not raising enough funds for themselves and they have to use the available space on the green to try and raise some money for themselves rather than raising funds for the local children charities, I don't think this will be a huge problem for the challenge to take part this year. I find it hard to comprehend that they would drop the ability to rise funds for charity only to make money for themselves. I will keep you all updated as I find out any more..... All information and pictures for the 2006 competition will go on in the next few weeks. He has, however, always been regarded as something of a political enigma. Raised and educated as a Roman-Catholic Mr Mugabe became a committed Marxist during the guerrilla war against the Rhodesian Front government of Ian Smith. Taking power on a wave of popular support his early political promises of reconciliation and democracy were later overtaken by a strong authoritarian streak and a deep distrust of opposition. Guerilla leader Born in 1924, Robert Gabriel Mugabe was educated in missionary schools and received the first of his seven degrees from South Africa's Fort Hare University. Returning to Rhodesia in 1960 he joined Joshua Nkomo's Zimbabwe African People's Union (Zapu) but left three years later to form the rival Zimbabwe African National Union (Zanu).

Reportedly, Qaddafi is to have been the financier of the "Black September Movement" which perpetrated the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre, was responsible for the direct control of the bombing of a German discotheque that wounded more than eighty U.S. Servicemen in 1986, and is said to have paid "Carlos-the Jackal" to kidnap and release several of the Saudi Arabian and Iranian oil ministers when it fit his purposes to do so. Col. Qadaffi's statements to the press should give the reader a clear understanding of his attitude toward America and the Western Democracies. He has been loosely quoted, on several occasions, as saying that "the streets of America will run red with blood" and "we consider ourselves at a state of war due to the provocations of the U.S. Sixth Fleet and the continued actions of American politicians." Although Qadaffi has been strangely silent since the U.S. F-111 raid on his compound and several key military targets, intelligence reports have verified his as having provided financial and logistical support for continued terror campaigns against America and her Allies. Several recent civilian airline bombings have all of the earmarks of Libyan involvement. Many mideast experts predict Qaddafi's major involvement in future attacks against the United States . Intelligence analysts point to the disclosure of an identified pharmaceutical plant located in a residential neighborhood, that in actuality may be a chemical munitions factory. Although denied by Qadaffi, this plant is believed to have the capability to produce nerve gases, which will add a new and most fearsome threat to the free world.
