A good light will let you make repairs by the side of road in the dark, it will also light your way home from dinner, and to the bathroom at night. Those are all important but my light has to also be great for reading in the tent at night, be very reliable, be very light and small and not use many batteries. That used to be hard to find but LED lights give 50 to 150 hours of good light with just 3 AAA batteries so they are both small and light. I can travel with these and only carry one set of spare batteries, that save a lot of weight. Two companies seem to really stand out when it comes to LED lights, Princeton Tec and Petzel. They make fairly priced reliable high performance LED lights. I usually find the best deals at Campmor.com

These points and an attempt to draw conclusions regarding the future of recumbent cycling will be discussed in the following. Firstly, it is necessary to gain some knowledge and understanding of the subject matter by defining what we mean by recumbent cycling and explain a history of its development. Generally, all definitions of a recumbent cycle agree that it is a machine with two or more wheels, where the rider sits in a seat with legs in a horizontal position. An example of this can be seen in Fig.2. There are exceptions to this, but for the purpose of the essay it will serve as a good working definition. It is difficult to pinpoint the invention of the recumbent cycle, although some early cycle designs during the middle 1800s placed the rider in a semi-recumbent position (see fig.3).

There is a wide variety of models available. There are recumbent bicycles and tricycles. Some are fully faired, these are called velomobiles. The constructions vary from everyday recumbents where you sit almost upright to lowracers where you lie a few inches above the ground. Riding recumbent bikes is a lot of fun and wherever you have the chance to try one you should do it. A recumbent bicycle is a bike where you can sit in a relaxed (usually reclined) position on a comfortable seat. Unlike on a standard bicycle the seat on a recumbent is comfortable at all speeds. Some recumbents can be faster than conventional bikes because of better aerodynamics. If the pedals are higher than the seat, the legs are in front of the body and the frontal area is smaller resulting in less air resistance. The faster you go the higher is the advantage. You will especially notice this when going downhill. Aerodynamics can be even better with the use of streamlined fairings and wheel covers.
