Austin Paddling Club Kayak Polo kayak polo is an onthe-water game that is similar to water polo and basketball. Two teams of five players paddle kayaks and dribble and pass a water polo http://www.austinpaddling.org/polo/polo.htm
Extractions: Kayak polo is an on-the-water game that is similar to water polo and basketball. Two teams of five players paddle kayaks and dribble and pass a water polo ball. The objective of the game is to throw the ball through the goal of the opposing team. Players cannot paddle while holding onto the ball. They can only hold the ball for five seconds before they must pass or dribble. While one team passes the ball and tries to score, the other team defends their goal and tries to gain possession of the ball. It is great fun for kids of all ages (up to 90 years old!) and boats of every kind (even open canoes!). Austin is home to several women's and men's polo teams. Since their inception, the teams have placed in the national polo championships! Kayak polo is played weekly on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm underneath the Mopac bridge (Loop 1 and Town Lake). Sure! While the teams play in special kayaks with special paddles and facemasks, you don't need special equipment to join in on the fun. Just bring your boat, paddle, PFD, and helmet, and join the game! Players are happy to teach you techniques and rules. Name E-mail Phone Ezio Ambrosetti austincanoepolo@hotmail.com

I used to enjoy playing when I lived in Fort Collins, and want to get more actively into kayaking again this spring and summer. If there is enough of a crew willing to commit, I'd think we could get the Idaho Springs Rec Center to allow us to play there. Extractions: New England Canoe Polo was founded as as non-profit organization to promote kayaking and in particular Canoe/Kayak Polo in New England. Membership is open to male and female paddlers of any ability. Our members range in ability from total beginners in kayaking and polo to members of the US National teams. We aim to remain the top club in the US by promoting the sport, building the skills of our players both individually and as members of a team, and encouraging the participation of new players. There are two teams with 5 players each on a court at once. The idea of the game is to outscore your opponent as in soccer or basketball. Strategies such as zone defense, full court press, and fast break are typical in kayak polo. Paddlers move the ball by throwing it, dribbling it, passing it to a team member, or shooting it at the opposing team's goal. When a player is in possession of the ball, an opposing player may hand tackle him or her with a hand push on the upper body or kayak tackle their boat to upset balance. The object is to force the player in possession to lose control of the ball. The opposing player can also choose to block passes and shots with a paddle, as the ball is being passed or shot. Extractions: What is Canoe/Kayak Polo? Canoe/Kayak Polo can be played indoors or outdoors on any flat area of water where a suitable court can be marked out. Canoe/Kayak Polo has been played in countries all over the world for over 25 years. Internationally agreed rules (via the International Canoe FederationI.C.F.) were introduced in 1987. Kayak Polo (or Canoe Polo, as it is known internationally) is a team game played in kayaks with water polo ball in a rectangular area approximately 130 ft (40 m) by 80 ft (25 m) of a pool or lake. Goals are suspended 6.5 ft (2 m) above each goal line. Kayaks have padding on the bow and stern to avoid injuring other players. Players wear helmets with facemasks and PFDs (personal floatation devices) with increased chest, back, and kidney padding for personal protection. A kayak polo team consists of five to ten players. At any given time during play, five players are allowed on the court for each team. Games consist of two 8-10 minute halves. As in basketball or soccer, the aim is to outscore your opponent. To do this, teamwork and tactics are essential.
