While NASCAR may have its own hierarchy, the vast majority of racing's most successful drivers have at some point passed through F3, making the aray of regional and national series operating around the world an important stepping-stone for aspiring F1 drivers. Although technically Formula 3 does not mandate a uniform chassis (like Champ Cars , IndyCars, GP2, and do), Dallara's permeation of the series might as well be a complete monopoly. Dallara also the builds chassis for IndyCars, the World Series by Renault (which feeds into F3) and GP2 (the next step up from F3). It built the immensely successful endurance racer for Audi and the first batch of the KTM X-bow , as well as consulting on the development of the Pagani Zonda and Ferrari 333 SP.

Surveillance carried on in much the same mode, but by this point any remaining jazz influences had all but disappeared.

Competing in this international class is almost today the only way to gain the ultimate goal, Formula One class and glorious World Championship. The term Formula 3 was born in south England near Bristol soon after the second world war, when people wanted and needed a small, simple and cheap single seater racing car. New class made it less expensive and otherways easier for young drivers to enter the sport. Later a group of British racing enthusiasts formed the 500 Club (later BRSCC) with John Cooper as one of the founder members. The group built in Surrey a very small monoposto with a 500 cc and 45 horse power one cylinder motorcycle racing engine mounted behind the driver. The english JAP speedway engine was aircooled and it offered an excellent power-weight ratio.The weigth of car was just a bit over 200 kg. Top speed was around 160-180 km/h. Cooper was not the first F 3 make, but definitely the most successful.

Unica band ad aver accompagnato Lucio Battisti nei suoi rarissimi concerti, la Formula 3 debutta discograficamente nel ’69 con il 45 giri “Questo folle sentimento”, seguito poi dal primo album “Dies Irae”, prodotto dallo stesso Battisti. Nel ’71 la Formula 3 si presenta a Sanremo con “La folle corsa”, in seguito interpreta altre canzoni indimenticabili come “Sole giallo sole nero” e “Eppur mi son scordato di te”. Nel ’74 il gruppo si scioglie per ricomporsi nel ’90, anno che da il titolo all’album “1990” che raccoglie, in versione rielaborata, i più importanti successi di Lucio Battisti, tra i quali spicca “Non è Francesca”. Nel ’92 il ritorno a Sanremo con il brano “Un frammento rosa” e nel ’94, sempre a Sanremo, con “La casa dell’imperatore”. La Formula 3 è attualmente impegnata in attività discografiche e concertistiche a rappresentare il “braccio rock” di Lucio Battisti.
