Extractions: Oom Yung /Chung Moo line of Martial Arts As proven by history, the origins of a line of martial arts are based on the movement, strength and credibility of the individual master, his instructors and students. The strength of the movement determines how strong the style is and the credibility of that generation of individuals. The achievements of Grandmaster "Iron" Kim demonstrate the strength and credibility of the Oom Yung / Chung Moo line of martial arts knowledge. A few of Grandmaster "Iron" Kim's achievements At the age of seven, Grandmaster "Iron" Kim began his life's path in the study and practice of martial arts. To achieve perfection of his martial arts movements, Grandmaster "Iron" Kim many times chose the solitude of the mountain and ocean areas of Asia to practice the forms and techniques that he learned. Although he learned from many qualified teachers, a majority of the knowledge that Grandmaster "Iron" Kim possesses was passed down through Grandmaster Wang Po, the 7th generation Grandmaster of Yin Yang Doe. In 1956, Master "Iron" Kim did compete in and win the All Asia Championship that was sponsored by Grandmaster Wang Po and was held in the Cho Leung area of Pusan. The Chinese title of Chung Moo Jik or "champion" was bestowed upon Master "Iron" Kim. The first place award that he did receive was called a Chung Moon Chung. A Chung Moon Chung is a paper scroll with wooden rods at each end. It is inscribed with the accomplishments of the winner and carries the official seal of the tournament. Several prominent judges and martial artists were in attendance at this championship and they hold in their memory the truth of this occasion.

Beau Inman Tom Moch - Age: 46 Before I made a decision to join Chung Moo Doe, I felt it was important to interview main instructors and owner. Reason, when I was younger I studied a form of martial arts which contributed to knee, shoulder and back injuries. At age forty something, I was searching for a martial art that would improve my physical and mental condition without causing me additional injury and discomfort. In the past, schools I joined went out of business and left me in the cold searching for another way to study martial arts. Therefore, it was important for me to understand who I was dealing with, what the history of the school was, how the school was connected organizationally and what the instructors personal view on life was all about. The prevailing points of most interest to me were: How have I benefited from practicing Chung Moo Doe?

Busman 04-27-2003, 05:40 PM For those who are studying or considering studying martial arts, ~please~ be aware of and avoid the schools affiliated with convicted felon John Chull Kim, AKA John "IRON" Kim. I myself was surprised to find there were any of these schools still in existence in San Diego no less after all of the scandals which involved Kim and his other head instructors a few years back. While there isn't as much overt pressure to squeeze money out of students and control their every thought, instructors are still using many of the same deceptive tactics to lure folks into signing long term contracts. What You Should Know: Schools are alternately known as "Oom Yung Doe" (popular name after Kim's conviction), "Chung Moo Doe" (used more frequently before Kim's IRS troubles), and "8 Martial Arts for Health" among others. The leader of the Oom Yung Doe/Chung Moo Doe/"8 Martial arts for Health", John C. Kim, was Convicted of Tax Fraud in Federal court several years ago (see official Government link at: http://www.ustreas.gov/irs/ci/articles/dockim99.ht m ). He got out of prison just recently. Apparently, he lives in...La Jolla! During one of several trials involving John Kim, the prosecution managed to debunk a number of untruths which Kim and the Chung Moo Doe/Oom Yung Doe promoted: Among them, putting to rest the tall tale that Kim had ever been the martial arts "Champion of Asia" (no such title exists), or that Kim had jump-kicked off an 11-story building and landed below unharmed (see the Oom Yung Doe website for this malarky http://www.oomyungdoe.com/ ). One is left wondering where the photographer stood to get the shot!

Extractions: I was perusing the web the other day and Googled Chung Moo Doe. I was surprised at some of the sites it took me to. I had finished my training in Houston when the school had to shut down due to lack of funds. I was one or two weeks away from testing for 1st degree, so never had the honor. That was in 1995. According to what I found, Master Kim was indicted for tax fraud. Dah. I knew something was up while attending classes. But some of the other things being said about the group being a cult, well, there is a dark side to everything, and I suppose some individuals would take advantage of certain situations. Chung Moo Doe is all about trusting your instructors to know what they are doing. In a proper school, a black belt is not acquired in a matter of a year or two. Proper training takes at least 3 to 5 years of varying instructors and methods. As in all things, IDIC (infinite diversity in infinite combinations is the preferred philosophy When attend classes in Houston, there was no cult activity that I was aware of. As i stated before, my instructors were the best. There was one instructor who followed the dark side of Moo Doe, and was not to be trusted. I learned this early when I witnessed him injure other students in his attempt to teach them. In retrospect, I now know it was his own lack of skills and understanding that was causing him to injure others. I managed to stay out of most of his classes, and whenever he would be the instructor, he was always way to busy trying to pursue his own ambitions to be a concerning threat to myself. In the end, he failed himself.

It's like what some of us saw in Kill Bill 2 when Beatrix finishes off Bill using this art. I also saw some videos of dim mak demos where a martial expert applies a "light version" of this art onto a trainee and with people on the ready to resuscitate that trainee. Traditional Chinese medicine theory is based on the idea that specific pathway lines called meridians exist on the human body, which include hundreds of acupressure points. Acupuncture is the most well known use of the meridian system. Pressing, seizing or striking these points (or combinations of points) with specific intent and certain angles can result in either heightening or diminishing qi circulation in the body, according to this theory."
