It is played in a hockey rink , either indoors or outdoors, depending on climate and location. In a game of broomball there are two teams, each consisting of six players, a goaltender plus five others. The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent. Goals are scored by hitting the ball into your opponent's net using your broom. Tactics and plays are similar to those used in sports such as ice hockey roller hockey and floorball Players hit a small ball around the ice with a stick called a 'broom'. The broom may have a wooden or aluminium shaft and has a rubber-moulded triangular head similar in shape to that of a regular broom. Players wear special rubber-soled shoes instead of skates, and the ice is prepared in such a way that it is smooth and dry to improve traction. Outside North America broomball is often mistaken for the sport of curling , possibly due to the 'broom' reference in the name, although the only similarities between the two are that they are both played on an ice surface.

This is based on exposure times to the cold before experiencing safety issues. We have our own thermometer and wind gauge set up to calculate wind gauge right down by the rinks. We do not go by the weather channel or the internet as those numbers often clash and usually are take from the airport where the weather can be quite different from down here. Please DRESS WARMLY and if you feel you are at risk of frostbite or anything go inside to warm up for a few minutes. Safety first, but games will still be played down to that wind chill. Extractions: The Flock Story: Too Much Time On Our Hands We're not just bored. We're bored, unskilled and kind of dumb. Based on that fact alone, its almost destiny that we ventured into the world of moderately competitive broomball (the equivalent of beer-league wiffleball in the ice-bound sports world). But it was more than just destiny that turned this incredibly less than average team into the sports entertainment powerhouse that the world knows today. It was the inspired genius of founder Jon Passman that brought this collection of talentless rabble together. It is the endless support of our fans who sadly have nothing better to do than to watch men sweat on ice. It is the tireless effort of the players that has turned such motivation and drive into so few wins. It is the complete lack of a life that has led to cool websites, trips to faraway lands and numerous hot tubs spreading the gospel of Flock. But more than anything it is the fact that we're in on the joke that makes us one of the most fun, enjoyable, and entertaining collections people ever to be associated with Broomball. Sure, we may not be winning a title anytime soon (other than "Most Likely to Laugh at Flatulence Jokes"), but damn if we don't have more fun than anyone else doing it.
