As well as providing a wonderful opportunity to learn about cars and engines, there is a rich history to racing as well as plenty of science. From stock car racing to Formula One racing, from rallies to drag racing - providing learning and fun for kids of all ages. When studying racing, history, science, geography and physics come into the picture, and what more exciting and interesting topic than this to learn about forces, combustion, safety and so much more. We will learn about racing legends as well as todays drivers competing for their turn at victory. We will take a look at todays family cars how they work and about some of their features. Speedways around the world will be studied, along with famous tracks here in America. Along with all of this, the students will take a look at the forces involved in racing, car design, safety features, and the driving strategies used by todays drivers. Lets see what we can learn from all of the dreamers, inventors and drivers that helped make automobiles and auto racing a reality. We will take a journey back in time to learn more about the development of automobiles, from Henry Ford and his many contributions to today's designs for tomorrow's cars. This four-week unit study provides plenty of opportunity for field trips as well as hands-on learning. Plan to join us as we take off on a new adventure!

Extractions: A native of Liverpool, N.Y., Duecker enlisted in the Army in October 1989 and trained to be an infantryman. He came to Fort Drum in January following an assignment with the Combined Forces, Land Component Command in Kuwait from May 2003 to January 2005 supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deployed into Iraq with the 1st Armor Division in 2004 to support combat operations. Lt. Col. Michael J. Price, commander of Special Troops Battalion, 10th UEx, remarked "So my mind is put a little bit at ease knowing that Maj. Duecker died doing what he wanted to be doing - Soldiering." He passed on July 6, 2005. Duecker's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist badge and the Ranger tab. He received a bachelor's of arts degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1996. He is survived by his mother Ida Duecker, of Salem, S.C., and his sisters, Leslie Keller, of Baldwinsville, and Lenelle Duecker, of Burbank, Calif., brothers David of Portland Oregon, and Donald of Utica N.Y.

Read more... Flashback 1982! Tom Reel Photo This Tom Reel photo of "Racy Bruce" Field was taken at Winchester Speedway in 1982 at a World Of Outlaw Midget (WOOM) event. Throughout his great driving career, "Racy Bruce" had three USAC National Midget feature wins, two at Winchester and one at Williams Grove, PA on the 1/2 mile dirt. One of the Winchester wins came in his first race back after a horrible crash at Erie Colorado. He won one USAC Silver Crown feature in a 150 lapper at IRP, where he say's he lapped the entire field up to second place Steve Butler. "Racy Bruce" had many other feature wins as well. He figures somewhere between 50 and 60, including wins at tracks like Salem (IN), Berlin (MI), Flemington (NJ), Rockford (IL), Sun Prairie (WI), Grundy County Speedway (IL), Illiana (IN) and Danville (IL).
