Extractions: Armando Navarro is Chair and Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Riverside. He received his A.A.degree in political science from Chaffey College in 1968; B.A. in political science from Claremont McKenna College in 1970; and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Riverside, in 1974. His areas of teaching specialization include Latino/Ethnic Politics, Social Movements, American Politics, and Latino Contemporary Issues. Professor Navarro is the author of " Mexican American Youth Organization: Avant-Garde of the Chicano Movement in Texas " published by the University of Texas Press (1995); " The Cristal Experiment: A Chicano Struggle for Community Control " published by the University of Wisconsin (1998); and " La Raza Unida Party: A Chicano Challenge to the U.S. Two Party Dictatorship " by Temple University Press. He is currently working on two books. The first of these, which will be his fourth is titled The Chicano Political Experience: Struggles for Social Change & Empowerment, is scheduled for completion by December 2001. His fifth book, What Needs To be Done: The Building of a New Movement, will be completed by June 2002. Professor Navarro has also authored several articles on Chicano/Latino politics, redistricting, community organizing, U.S./Chicano relations, immigration, and the Los Angeles Eruption (riots) of 1992.

Extractions: Ethnic Studies refers to the investigation, exploration, and involvement with those factors and areas that bear on the lives and experiences, both past and present, of ethnically distinct minority groups in the U.S. The Institute for Ethnic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is composed of three separate programs: Latino and Latin American Studies, African American and African Studies, and Native American Studies. Although they operate together under the leadership of a single Director, each program has its own coordinator and plans its own curriculum and activities. The Institute offers several interdisciplinary programs of study. Courses are taught by core faculty who hold formal joint appointments within the Institute and by affiliated faculty from various departments within the College of Arts and Sciences, such as Anthropology, English, Geography, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Political Science, and Sociology, as well as other colleges at UNL, such as Fine and Performing Arts, Business Administration, and Teachers College. The Institute for Ethnic Studies and the three programs also sponsor or co-sponsor a variety of lectures, symposia, research projects, and cultural events on campus, and serve as a resource for UNL students, faculty, and staff as well as the wider community.

Extractions: Welcome to the Ethnic Studies Minor homepage. Ethnic Studies at UW-River Falls is an interdisciplinary minor that provides an excellent complement to many majors on campus. The program focuses on the experience of African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans, and Native Americans. In examining these groups, the program provides curriculum that explores the intersection between race, ethnicity, gender, and class in the context of U.S. institutions. In addition, the program provides curriculum that compares race, ethnicity, gender, and class between the U.S. and international contexts. We encourage students to consider a Double Minor in Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies. The double minor provides an in depth exploration of issues surrounding race, ethnicity, and gender. Also, it is practical as students can complete the double minor with minimal additional credits.
