Several cuneiform horoscopes have been excavated, the earliest dated to the year 410 B.C. This, like most of the horoscopes found on clay tablets, comes from the city of Babylon; although some cuneiform horoscopes from the city of Uruk, south of Babylon, have also come to the light of day. The sole content of these early horoscopes was the tabulation of the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets in relation to the twelve signs of the zodiac. No other astrological element is mentioned or depicted. Thus there is no mention of houses or of the ascendant, which is used to define the houses; nor are aspects between the planets referred to, apart from the obvious aspect of conjunction (when two planets are together in the same part of the zodiac.) For example, the text accompanying the horoscope of Aristocrates (Uruk, 3 rd June, 235 B.C.) reads: Jupiter in 18° Sagittarius. The place of Jupiter (means)...he will become rich, he will grow old, (his) days will be numerous. Venus in 4° Taurus.
