Ahlfors was appointed lecturer in mathematics at the bo Akademi (in Turku ). He completed his doctorate in In he went to Harvard University and in he was one of the first two people to be awarded the Fields Medal . He returned to Finland in to take up a post at the University of Helsinki, but the outbreak of war led to problems although Ahlfors was unfit for military service. He was offered a post at the Federal Polytechnic Institute at Zurich in and finally managed to travel there in March 1945 . He did not enjoy his time in Switzerland and jumped at a chance to leave, returning to work at Harvard where he remained until he retired in

Extractions: June 28th, 2002 June Diary Journo-droids on Fox. I like to watch Fox News Channel. I am still a big OReilly fan , and I watch some of the other shows when I get a chance. Its not that Fox News has a line. I dont think they have a line, and I find something to disagree with in pretty much every program. I do feel, though, that Im not just watching a bunch of blow-dried journo-school graduates all kitted out with the Arthur Sulzberger Jr. set of acceptable opinions. There are signs, with a lot of the Fox people, that they can think for themselves. Clinging to brand loyalty like a good little consumer, I also watch the regular Fox channel the one that isnt Fox News, I mean which has a good track record for sitcoms that appeal to my sense of humor: MWT Malcolm King of the Hill , etc. So it was that the other day I caught the 10 oclock news on that regular channel.
