March 23 Noether won the Alfred Ackermann-Teubner Memorial Prize for the Advancement of Mathematical Knowledge in 1932. As is common practice in honoring important mathematicians, a crater on the moon is named after her. In the judgement of the most competent living mathematicians, Fraulein Noether was the most significant creative mathematical genius thus far produced since the higher education of women began. Emmy Noether & Relativity Theory Are the historians not aware that emmy noether worked on the general emmy noether was there, and this was only the beginning of her illustrious career. http://www.hypatiamaze.org/emmy_noether.html
Extractions: Although she was not on the faculty officially, she was working with David Hilbert at the University of Gottingen in Germany. She was invited to join his team of mathematicians who were working on Hilbert's foray into mathematical physics. In fact, many historians today give credit to Hilbert for the "final form" of the equations describing general relativity theory. Apparently, both he and Einstein produced the same equations at about the same time: fall of 1915!

Humboldt fellow, now at ICTP Trieste) Welcome to our homepage. Our group has research interests in a number of areas of quantum field theory and string theory. We are particularly involved in studying the interface between string theory and quantum field theory. One focus of interest are extensions and generalizations of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Our group is funded by the Emmy Noether programme of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). We actively participate in the scientific life of the quantum field theory group at Humboldt University.

Extractions: The recognition of bacterial pathogens is a prerequisite for a successful immune defense against infections. The challenge for the host is the specific recognition of non-self structures presented by bacterial intruders. The activation of an immune response is triggered by a variety of bacterial products which are either presented on the cell surface of the infecting microbes or, when cells divide or die, released into the circulation of the host. These molecules are termed pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP). Endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS), the main amphiphilic component of the outer layer of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, is among the most potent stimuli of the innate immune system. In patients with Gram-negative infections it is a central mediator in the development of sepsis and septic shock , pathophysiological conditions with a lethality of about 50%. Currently, there is no therapy available to improve the outcome of sepsis and septic shock.
