Extractions: Events / Latest News / 1 ST EDITION OF EKRAN ENDED 1 ST EDITION OF EKRAN ENDED Short report The EKRAN programme, started in April 2004 came to a successful end in November 2004. Here come some statistics. 4 sessions: 40 days of training filled with group and individual script analysis, rehearsals, storyboard drawing, shooting, editing, workshops with actors, screenings and discussions. 21 tutors (film professionals: directors, script writers and script editors, editors, producers, directors of photography) from Poland, Denmark, UK, Germany, Russia. EKRAN is addressed to teams of film professionals (directors as team leaders have to present a credit of at least one film produced) and aims at creating the best quality film projects by putting stress not only on script development but also on developing the visualization strategy for the project (it's tone, style, actors). EKRAN puts stress to a pre-production phase - it should be used to the fullest by strengthening the role of a team work as a film is indeed a common effort. The ideology of EKRAN is simple: "from script to screen, as soon as possible", even before the script is ready. Only on the set the creative team is able to check which elements of script work and which need to be removed or transformed. Therefore each of the participating teams had the opportunity of shooting two scenes from their script.

Extractions: January, 2001. Memorial from Volume 6, #1 , of TopCom By any workable standard, Edwin Hewitt was a topological colossus. What is surprising, in view of the strong topological legacy he left us, is the paucity, in numerical terms, of his contributions. Even with a broad and generous interpretation of topology , one can classify no more than 10 of his approximately 103 research papers under that rubric. His definitive departure at the age of 35 from topological research in favor of harmonic analysis and LCA groups has been much noted and discussed by Hewitt-watchers and interested amateur historians. There were apparently two threads to this change of direction. My personal insight into the principal of these derives from the fact that Hewitt interrupted me sotto voce on each of the two occasions in my life when he was in the audience and I was at the podium singing his praises. On the first of these, in October, 1982, when I introduced his Colloquium talk

Edward Marczewski odegra³ ogromn± rolê w uformowaniu we Wroc³awiu o¶rodka badañ matematycznych. Nastêpuj±ce uwagi - do¶æ oczywiste i banalne - s± w wielkim stopniu przeformu³owaniem opinii i ocen pochodz±cych od Edwarda Marczewskiego.
