With the retirement of Sadler, and the arrival of Derek Lawden as HoD, the atmosphere if not the resources for research improved a great deal, and through the 1960s Bob wrote and published a series of papers, largely on one of the topics that Lawden had pioneered, that of orbital transfer. He was promoted to a readership in 1968. Throughout his time in the department, Bob took more than his share of administrative work, and of the teaching of first-year and engineering mathematics courses, and is rightly remembered for his patience and thoroughness. On his retirement at the end of the 1980s, Bob became involved in (perhaps "was inveigled into" suits the case better) the NZ International Mathematical Olympiad movement, and set up the weekly coaching sessions which are open to candidate olympians in Christchurch. He is still in charge, and the number of this country's best young mathematicians who have passed through his hands, and who owe a real debt to him for patient instruction, encouragement and inspiration, grows by the year.

The structure of homogeneous Wick ideals with degree higher than 2 is discussed. For the braided operator a formula to calculate the largest cubic ideal when the quadratic one is known is obtained. Irreducible -representations of the -CAR algebra are classified. References: J. Funct. Anal. , no. 1 (1995), 33-99. MR Mat. Ann.

Extractions: RSS NWsource: Outdoors Sign up for our Outdoors / Recreation newsletter While some salmon fishing spots are struggling, there are many other options where the fish are willing to bite. Salmon fishing off the Washington coast picked up dramatically this week, mainly at Westport and Ilwaco. "We had quite a few anglers limiting Monday through [Tuesday] with 75 to 80 percent of the catch beings kings," said Mark Cedergreen, president of the Westport Charterboat Association. "The charters are finding them about 20 miles north of the harbor in 180 feet of water." "The ocean is smoking down at Ilwaco, and they started to pick up quite a few chinook," said Wendy Beeghly, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist. "It has been pretty much limit fishing for charters, and the private boats have been averaging 1.3 fish per person." The chinook catch at La Push has been slightly better than coho, but overall anglers were averaging half a fish per rod.

Extractions: Unsocialite Gerald Krein added another notch to his belt of failure this week, throwing what has been dubbed "the worst party ever". The unemployed male model came briefly to fame earlier this week after being arrested for attempting to lure depressed women that he met on internet chat rooms to visit his trailer for Valentines Day, have sex with him, and hang themselves naked. In spite of inviting everyone well in advance, nobody bothered to show up. "This is even worse than my Christmas party", moaned Gerald, who is temporarily residing in the Klamath County Jail, where he is charged with being a total loser. "At least at that party my bud Danny showed up and we drank us some beers. We didn't get naked, though. I don't know how that rumor got started". One of the women contacted by Krein spoke to FGAQ under condition of anonymity. "Ewww, gross", she told us.
