Oktober im Kolloquium des Mathematischen Instituts der TU Clausthal vor - Professor Dr .h. c. mult. Israel Gohberg; über 460 mathematische Arbeiten veröffentlichte er bis heute. Professor Gohberg hält seinen Vortrag (17 Uhr, Mathematisches Institut, Erzstr. 1) auf Einladung von Professor Dr. Michael Demuth. In der von Israel Gohberg herausgegebenen Reihe zur Operatortheorie gibt Michael Demuth eine Unterserie heraus. Mit zehn Veröffentlichungen pro Jahr und etwa 40 Doktorarbeiten, die er betreute, übte er in seinem Feld, der Operatortheorie, einen immensen Einfluss aus. Überall, wo er in der mathematischen Welt hinkam, zog er die Menschen durch seine charismatische und inspirierende Art in seinen Bann. Es wird ihm ein untrüglicher Instinkt nachgesagt zu erkennen, welche mathematische Aufgabenstellung fruchtbar und erfolgversprechend sein kann, und er hatte das Talent und den Durchhaltewillen, dafür zu sorgen, dass die - in einem genialen Moment geborenen - Ideen auch klar und deutlich dargelegt und publiziert wurden.
