Aivars Lorencs I occupied myself with statistical experiments, following the ideas of the Rigamathematician piers bohl. My publications found certain approval, http://www.gramata21.lv/userseng/lorencs_aivars_eng/
Extractions: AIVARS LORENCS scientist, mathematician, Professor of the University of Latvia, successfully connected with the beginnings of computer science in Latvia despite having lost his eyesight as a boy. I was born in a family of fishermen on the 7-th of December 1933 in the Dundaga parish. Already in early childhood I was a pronounced thinker, keen on observation. I was interested in technical problems. This interest I had inherited from my father Arvids Lorencs who had only a poor education, not having had any opportunity or possibility of going to school. That was during the time of the First World War, when my grandmother with her two sons had to be evacuated from Kurzeme to Russia. The army burnt everything down on its march and compelled the population to abandon their homes. After his return my father had to do manual work, yet kept his technical interests all his life and was rather clever in technical things. I, too, had that lively interest in technical problems. And so it happened after the Second World War, that accidentally a detonator of a grenade came into my hands, of which I wanted to get the explosive out. I had to do it fast, although I knew that one had to be careful. The explosion made me blind for life, leaving no hope of any further technical occupation. From that time on I cannot consider myself as an independent person. I continued my education at the boarding school for children blind or with weak eyesight. Up to the last form I never thought particularly about mathematics. I was equally successful in all subjects. I paid particular attention to physics, especially to experimental physics, being, however, seriously handicapped. Another subject I was interested in was philosophy. Although there existed a University in Latvia, it did no have any philosophy department. The nearest thing was the chair of Marxism, which did not attract me, even if I did have a lively interest in the works of the revolutionary democrats. I was deeply interested in history. I read everything I could get hold of, yet I did not desire to become a historian by profession. Thus, after a careful choice, I decided for mathematics.
