"Where else would you go if you have an ax to grind?" In Your Ear Neither applies to One Step Closer, the latest studio effort from the Colorado-based String Cheese Incident. While longtime fans may bemoan the lack of bluegrass-flavored tunes, One Step Closer is by far the band's most cohesive and democratic album to date. All five members of the band contribute at least two songs, all take turns as lead vocalist and, with the exception of keyboard maestro Kyle Hollingsworth, all play guitar on at least one track. To a some extent, String Cheese Incident have taken up the mantle of the Grateful Dead as touring torchbearers of hippie counterculture. Like the Dead, they've always been primarily a concert experience with live recordings being preferred over studio work by most fans. One Step Closer may change that.

Extractions: Version for printing Oskar Anderson is sometimes said to be Russian, sometimes German. His name appears both as Oskar Nikolaevich Anderson and Oskar Johann Viktor Anderson. The reason for the confusion is that he was born in Minsk (in what is now Belarus) and moved to Kazan, which is in western Russia on the edge of Siberia in the 1890's, but he was born into a family which was ethnically German. His father Nikolas Anderson was professor of Finno-Ugric languages at the University of Kazan. Oskar attended Kazan Gymnasium (the same school Lobachevsky attended a century before) and graduated with the gold medal in 1906. Anderson spent one year studying mathematics at the University of Kazan before going to St Petersburg where he studied economics at the Polytechnic Institute. From 1907 to 1915 he was A A Chuprov's assistant and his dissertation was on variance-difference methods for analysing time series. It developed the ideas of his supervisor Chuprov on correlation and was published in Biometrika in 1914. See [3] for details of Chuprov and his work with Anderson.

The dates go from about 1850 to 1906. The copies that I worked from were very faint and I may have made errors. If errors are found, please let me know so that I can make corrections. If you plan to order copies of these records, you should ask the clerk at the courthouse to doublecheck the original index to be sure the name and numbers are correct. Naturalizations were recorded in many different books. The following is from only one index book. If you don't find the name you are looking for, it may appear in one of the other indexes. For a few of the names below, there is good information in the books refered to. For most, there is not much more than the name, the date, and the country. There may be more information in some other record.
