Extractions: 6. Aquatic Inventory of Wapusk National Park Lakes and Ponds Forcing the Coastal Zone - The Weather The coastal regions of Canada have come under close attention in regard to climate change, because they can be especially vulnerable for a variety of reasons. In the circum-Arctic, weather drives damaging waves and influences the formation and movement of sea-ice, and water-level surges can accompany storms. People have a great deal invested in coastal infrastructure and habitation, all of which comes under immediate risk during a strong weather event. "Weather" is explicitly worked first into the impacts assessment process, in which specific results are linked to particular weather events, and then into the planning process, which requires some knowledge of longer-term patterns and trends associated with problematic weather events. This project is utilizing hemispheric datasets of climatic information to construct frequencies and return intervals for the last 50 years of large-magnitude weather events that have been associated with coastal zone impacts over the entire circum-polar coastal region. This work is in direct support of the Arctic Coastal Dynamics project, an international, multi-disciplinary effort led by Alfred Wegener Polar Marine Research Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Extractions: Skip navigation Photo Gallery The modern designed racing boats which were used by other nations with mixed success in the 1960 Games, and successfully at the 1962 World Championships, were used extensively at these Games. Australia again used older designs to its detriment. The men's eight used a new boat which was donated by the Gillette Company and so bore its name. Sydney boat builders Sargent and Burton incorporated new design features which they thought would counter the new international trends in boat building. In fact some of these Australian modifications lacked empirical wisdom proving that not all change is for the good. The boat was delivered just one week before the shipping date for Tokyo. Anxious trials revealed that the stern dragged in the water with conspicuous adverse effect. The boat was therefore discarded. Men's coxless four Hastily a repaired boat available from another Sydney boat builder George Towns was renamed Gillette and shipped without even the possibility of first trying it on the water. The great advances in boat design had simply left Australia behind. The Americans, led by John Kelly Jnr, had commissioned the Italian boat-builder Donoratico to build several boats incorporating new technology including the moulding of the shell rather than tacking it to the frame.

While they searched themselves - and the pertinent literature - for the significance of the passage's teachings, they also searched the Internet for details of their assignment. The Divinity School (HDS) class is one of dozens at HDS and at the Graduate School of Education (GSE) that are taking advantage of a new collaborative information technology project called "iCommons." iCommons is tapping independent efforts already under way at Harvard's Schools and Colleges to create a pool of software tools that its creators and users hope will soon include things like online tools for videos and slide shows - indexed by subject and word so students can find key passages and topics - and polling software and threaded discussion tools, where e-mail exchanges between instructors and students are cataloged and searchable by subject.
