The Sirius Research Group Scientific analysis of the mathematical relationship between Earth's complete period of revolution, the tropicalsidereal year and our civil calendar indicates that earth's precession is not a scientific fact. http://siriusresearchgroup.com/
Extractions: The objective of this site is to demonstrate as clearly as possible that the observed phenomenon of the 'Precession of the Equinox' is caused by the celestial motion of our entire solar system in relation to Sirius. The website examines and explains a number of properties of Earth's period of rotation, its revolution around the Sun and the orbital motions of various objects within the solar system as they relate to the phenomenon of precession By carefully analyzing the rigorous mathematical relationship that exists between Earth's sidereal year, the tropical (equinoctial) year and our civil calendar, it will become evident that the established theory of Lunisolar Precession is a fallacy of scientific reasoning. Meridian-Transit observations of Sirius and current astronomical data do not seem to allow for any other conclusion to be drawn.
IBM Research | Projects | Mathematical Modeling And Analysis The mathematical modeling and analysis continues to play an important role for computer systems, applications and services. We seeks to explore and solve http://www.research.ibm.com/mmaa/
Extractions: The mathematical modeling and analysis continues to play an important role for computer systems, applications and services. We seeks to explore and solve fundamental, theoretical problems in areas including mathematical analysis of system/application data; formulating and solving mathematical models of system/application workloads, performance, capacity planning (short-term and long-term), service-level agreements, etc; short-term and long-term, forecasting of system/application workloads, performance and capacity planning; and methods for system/application traffic generation and benchmarking. In each case, our modeling and analysis focuses on multiple time scales, at both micro and macro levels. The focus of our research in this project is on stochastic models and queueing theory. Our analysis of data from a wide range of systems demonstrates complex arrival and service patterns that include short-range dependencies, long-range dependencies, heavy-tail distributions and non-stationary effects.

Extractions: Summary Wavelet analysis has undergone significant growth in the past few years, with many successes in the efficient analysis, processing, and compression of signals and images. It is based on the idea of time-scale decomposition of signals and images, which offers many advantages over the traditional frequency and time-frequency decompositions. Unfortunately, many potential users of this new technique are hindered by the inaccessibility of its mathematical framework. The objectives of this course are as follows: a) To give a practical introduction to time-scale analysis in one and two dimensions, and show that it may be regarded as a wideband generalization of time-frequency analysis. b) To develop space-time-scale analyses specifically adapted to acoustic and electromagnetic waves and apply them to the solution of inverse problems associated with sonar and radar. Participants will receive an extensive set of updated lecture notes typeset in TeX, with many MATLAB examples and illustrations, as well as Dr. Kaiser's textbook 'A Friendly Guide to Wavelets' (Birkhauser, 1994; sixth priting, 1999; 1995 Library of Science Book of the Month). The book and lecture notes are an outgrowth of courses the author has taught for engineers and industry specialists over the past ten years. Such an expression can determine whether a loose economic intuition has a coherent, logical meaning. Also, a full formal development of economic ideas can itself suggest new economic concepts and intuitions. The primary objective of the Journal is to provide a forum for work in economic theory which expresses economic ideas using formal mathematical reasoning. For work to add to this primary objective, it is not sufficient that the mathematical reasoning be new and correct. The work should have real economic content. The economic ideas should be interesting and important. These ideas may pertain to any field of economics or any school of economic thought. The economic ideas may be well-known, provided they are expressed and developed in a novel way.

Extractions: Mailing List 23 Jul10 Aug 2001 Organisers : Professor P Embrechts ( Zurich ), Dr WJ Fitzgerald ( Cambridge ), Dr DJ Goodman ( British Antartic Survey ), Professor RL Smith ( North Carolina Programme theme Corporations and governments are making risk decisions based on perceptions of extreme values. Frequently these decisions are taken with an inadequate framework for handling low probability, high severity events drawn from non-stationary time series. These problems are very diverse and range from analysis of the stability of the UK economy, corporate governance issues, to the reinsurance purchase of a major insurer. Forecasts of future events must take into account possible changes in the structure of the underlying time series, including the possible impact of global changes in the environment. This Short Programme will bring together mathematicians, statisticians, economists and environmental scientists who specialise in the analysis of financial, economic and environmental data. Particular attention is paid to mathematical models and statistical prediction tools for extreme events, and for nonstationarity. Specific problems include the estimation of Value at Risk in nonstationary time series, the development of alternative "measures of risk", incorporation of model uncertainty into statistical calculations, and the extensions of multivariate time series.

Industrial Mathematical Solutions Industrial mathematical consultancy, including detailed examples of numerical analysis. http://www.mathematic.co.uk/
Extractions: We will provide you with a quick, reliable assessment of any mathematical difficulties you may have, whether they are based in business, science, engineering, finance, modelling or any other area. Simply provide us with a clear definition of the problem faced, and an indication of the information available. We will then tell you whether the problem, as posed, is solvable. If it is not, we will try to work with you to present the problem in a form amenable to mathematical representation and solution. As examples of the kind of standard of solution which you can expect from us, we have prepared some original mathematical analyses of some problems for you to look at. These show the clarity of expression and efficiency of solution which we will apply to the tasks you set us. Perhaps these will even help you become aware of a wider selection of mathematical tools available. These are taken from a diverse range of fields and vary from the small-scale to the large. We are happy to help with any problem, however bizarre, commonplace, big or small.
