The general goal in this discipline is for students to learn the techniques of matrix manipulation so that they can solve systems of linear equations in any number of variables. Linear algebra is most often combined with another subject, such as trigonometry, mathematical analysis, or precalculus. Students solve linear equations in any number of variables by using Gauss-Jordan elimination. Students interpret linear systems as coefficient matrices and the Gauss-Jordan method as row operations on the coefficient matrix. Students reduce rectangular matrices to row echelon form.

These routines are partitioned into three categories. First, the source code for the basic linear algebra routines are incorporated into one program named "BLAS.F90". Second, the source code for the non-linear minimization, numerical integration/differentiation and the random number generator are incorporated into one program named "ROUTINES.F90". Finally, the source code for the Generalized Method of Moments statistical procedure is named "GMM.F90". Documentation on how to use these routines is provided below. All 12 chapters have been in use at Macquarie University since 1997. The material has been organized in such a way to create a single volume suitable for use in the algebra half of the units MATH135, MATH136, MATH133 and MATH235 at Macquarie University.
